Your New Role
As the Member Tax Specialist you will be responsible for overseeing the management of member level tax reporting and financial controls, which is delivered by our outsourced service provider. You will liaise with tax, compliance, risk and operational specialists both internally and at third parties to ensure Member Tax is appropriately applied, reported, and controlled through operational process and system configuration.
Key duties include but are not limited to :
Monitoring and reconciliation of manual payments for correct tax treatment including monitoring of cheque reconciliation, unallocated and unpresented monies
Monitoring of PAYG and DASP withholding tax reporting including annual summary and annual reconciliation
Manage the unclaimed money process including providing instructions to the administrator, ensuring the correct members are transferred in line with legislative requirements and facilitate engagement with the ATO
Manage the TVP (Trustee Voluntary Payment) process on behalf of the Trustee
Own and manage the process for obtaining and maintaining accurate member details including matching with SuperStream, Clearing House, and ATO
Tracking and monitoring of tax on payments, including analysing member transactions and statements to ensure proper tax application and reporting, confirmation that cheques have been issued by the mailhouse.
Ensuring Member Operations complies with relevant laws and regulations related to member tax obligations.
Support the Member Operations business with tax related incidents, complaints, and remediation scenarios
Working with other departments and external agencies to share information and coordinate efforts.
Provide advice to the Member Operations Team on tax-related matters and financial implications
What You’ll Need
At least five years’ experience in Tax Law
At least five years’ experience within the Superannuation industry
Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or Superannuation desirable
Professional certification or development in taxation, business management or superannuation desirable
Effective and succinct communication skills
An ability to comprehend and translate technical and complex legislations
Collaborates to achieve better outcomes but is comfortable to work autonomously when needed
Enjoys interacting with a diverse workforce across multiple organisations
