Position Title : IT Operations Lead – Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)
Department : IT / AMI Operations
Location : Jaipur
Reports To : AMI Program Manager / IT Head
1. Role Overview
The IT Operations Lead – AMI is responsible for leading and managing daily operational activities related to the Advanced Metering Infrastructure ecosystem, including HES, MDMS, WFM systems, field teams, and utility stakeholders. The role ensures seamless data flow, timely issue resolution, integration stability, and smooth coordination between technical teams, field operations, and utility departments.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. AMI System Operations
Oversee daily end-to-end AMI operations covering HES, MDMS, Billing, and WFM.
Monitor data acquisition, meter communication, data quality, and system performance.
Track exceptions such as no-communication meters, data gaps, integration failures, and device issues.
B. Integration Management – HES, MDMS & Billing
Ensure smooth and accurate data integration between Head-End System (HES), Meter Data Management System (MDMS) and Billing System.
Coordinate with OEMs and IT vendors to resolve interface-level issues.
Validate VEE rules execution and ensure correct billing data output.
Monitor meter events (Power ON / OFF, magnetic tamper, meter cover open, etc.) and ensure correct flow to MDMS and Billing.
C. Field Communication & Issue Coordination
Act as a single point of contact between IT, Field Operations, OEM teams, and Utility officers.
Ensure timely escalation and resolution of field communication issues such as :
No-communication meters
Meter installation errors
SIM / Network issues
DT aggregation issues
Incorrect tagging (Feeder / DT / Meter hierarchy)
Provide clear instructions to field teams for rectification based on system analysis.
Track field resolution SLAs and maintain proper documentation.
D. WFM (Workforce Management) Operations
Coordinate with WFM teams for job assignments related to installations, replacements, and troubleshooting.
Monitor job closures, ensure correct capture of meter details, geo-coordinates, and photos.
Validate job quality and ensure adherence to SOPs.
Provide analytics on job performance, productivity, and issue trends.
E. Utility Stakeholder Management
Address daily queries from utility departments including billing, operations, metering, and consumer services.
Support DISCOM reviews, governance meetings, audits, and reporting.
Prepare daily / weekly dashboards :
Communication performance
Installations & replacements
Billing completion
Network performance
Exception reports (Tamper, Outage, Energy mismatch, etc.)
F. Incident & Problem Management
Lead diagnosis of repetitive issues in AMI infrastructure.
Maintain incident logs, RCA reports, and preventive action plans.
Coordinate with telecom providers, meter OEMs, HES / MDMS vendors to resolve systemic issues.
Drive improvements for communication stability and data accuracy.
3. Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Engineering / IT / Computer Science / Electrical / Electronic and communication..
5–10 years of experience in AMI / Utility IT operations.
Strong understanding of AMI architecture : Meters, DCU / Gateway / RF, HES, MDMS, WFM, Network layers.
Working knowledge of power distribution business processes (Feeder, DT, consumer hierarchy).
4. Key Skills
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Good understanding of network communication (GPRS / 4G / NB-IoT / RF).
Good command over SQL, log analysis, and dashboard tools.
Excellent communication skills to bridge IT, field teams, and utility stakeholders.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multi-team coordination.
Experience in SLA management and issue escalation.
