Position Profile - Staff SDET (SDET-4)

Job Purpose As a Staff Software Development Engineer in Test, you will be responsible for testing the REST APIs and backend web services applications. You will interact and collaborate with product owners and architects across the timezones to understand the software solution and also present reports on testing progress, quality metrics, and any critical issues to management and project stakeholders. You are also expected to review test cases and automation suites for the software product. You will mentor other talented engineers and encourage innovation in the team.

You will also provide guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the teams efficiency and effectiveness in testing and quality assurance activities. This position requires in-depth knowledge of backend API testing strategies, manual testing techniques for API level testing and UI-level Web application testing, along with hands-on experience in API, Performance and UI automation. You should have experience with agile methodologies, monitoring all stages of software development to identify and resolve system malfunctions to meet quality standards. You should be able to assess and communicate potential risks related to software quality, helping the team to prioritize testing efforts based on the potential impact. Good to have experience in restassured, java, python, c#, scala, playwright and TypeScript.

Leadership and Mentorship

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to senior and junior members of the team.

Lead and participate in technical initiatives, code reviews, and design discussions.

Demonstrate leadership by exhibiting professionalism, good judgment, and effective communication skills.

Test Process Improvement

Continuously evaluate and improve testing processes, procedures, and tools to ensure quality and efficiency.

Stay current with industry trends and best practices related to software testing and quality assurance.

Identify areas for improvement in the software development lifecycle and provide recommendations.

Integrate all automated tests and reports with CI

Coordinate with the project team and complete testing on time

Report bugs and track them to closure.

Take part in team standups, product review meetings, weekly meetings.

Understand System Architecture and provide valuable inputs to continuously improve

Ability to test the agreed modules in time, work with junior team members

Eager to learn and adapt to dynamically changing environment

Design, develop, and maintain the test cases, test data and automation test suite

Make automation design at the module level that is highly reusable.

Document work, automation designs, code, and record and produce test reports.

Participate in reviews of work done by peers and provide constructive feedback.

Completely accountable for one s own work. Manage time efficiently.

Responsible for deliveries within the required deadlines. Deliveries can be modules, documentation, customer releases, etc.,

Estimate, Plan, organize, and execute assignments with very little or moderate supervision.

Ensure team motivation and morale.

Other responsibilities as assigned by the management from time to time.

Key Result Area : Timely delivery of test cases and automated tests on a sprint-to-sprint basis.

Automation coverage to be at least 90% in the project.

Effective reporting of work and reports.

Skill Set : Minimum 8 to 12 years of professional experience in SDET

Programming Languages : Java / Typescript / Python / C#

Web Technologies and Protocols :

Understanding web technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

Familiar of HTTP, HTTPS, RESTful APIs, GraphQL, Angular, React, jQuery

Automation Frameworks and Tools :

Proficiency in automation frameworks like Selenium / Playwright / Cypress.

Test automation tools such as TestNG, JUnit, or NUnit.

Web Element Locators :

Ability to identify and locate web elements

(CSS selectors, XPath expressions, HTML attributes, class names)

Understanding of dynamic elements,

iframes, shadow DOM, and handling different element states.

API Testing :

Understanding the principles and characteristics of APIs

Knowledge in constructing requests, parsing responses, and identifying issues.

Knowledge in writing scripts using Postman / SOAPUI / REST Assured

Able to create, send, and analyze HTTP requests.

Performance testing tools :

Understanding types of performance tests load / stress / endurance testing

Understanding performance metrics(response time,throughput, concurrency)

skills to identify bottlenecks, and diagnose performance issues

Familiarity with tools like JMeter / LoadRunner / Gatling

Solely handle Test Environment Setup

Understanding networking concepts, protocols (e.g., TCP / IP),

Understanding network-related issues

Testing Concepts :

Writing test strategy, test plan and test case, and test execution

Version Control Systems :

Bitbucket / GitHub

managing code changes

collaborating with other team members

maintaining a history of code revisions.

Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (CI / CD) :

Tools like Jenkins / Bamboo / Buildkite

Integrating the automation into CI / CD pipelines

Problem-Solving and Analytical Thinking :

designing efficient automation solutions / Framework

ability to identify and troubleshoot complex software defects

Test Management and Reporting :

Knowledge on Test management tools like JIRA or Zephyr

Experience in generating comprehensive test reports

Leadership and Mentoring :

guiding and mentoring other team members

providing technical expertise and guidance

Communication and Collaboration :

communicating testing progress to stakeholders.

communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Agile Methodologies :

Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban

Planning for Iterative development cycles

Manage frequent releases

Risk Assessment and Mitigation :

ability to identify and mitigate risks related to software quality.

Measure how well risks are documented and managed throughout the project.

Resource Management :

resource allocation and team management,

assess the efficiency and productivity of the testing team.

Ensure resources are allocated effectively to meet project deadlines and quality goals.

Good knowledge of the AWS / Azure cloud platform

Compare and contrast the various solutions given a problem statement

Upbeat, Self-starter and Passionate to learn new technologies.

Good to have : Knowledge of cloud native technologies

Certification / Experience in AWS / Azure resources

Qualifications & Experience : Total of at least 8 to 12 years of experience and must have a working experience of about 4 to 6 years in relevant areas from a tier-1 organization

Must be a graduate from a tier-1 or a tier-2 ranked institute studying Computer Science Engineering with a strong academic record.

10th Grade : State Boards 90%. Central or International Boards : 80%

12th Grade : State Boards 90%. Central or International Boards : 80%

Undergraduate : GPA 8.0 ( Central institutes ) 8.5 ( State institutes ) - In a scale of 10

Post Graduation : GPA 8.0 - In a scale of 10

A score of 7.0 GPA in a scale of 10 is acceptable if the candidate is from a tier-1 institute

Supervisory Responsibility : Supervise and lead a team of SDET members.
