The Transport Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the transportation needs of the institution, ensuring safe, efficient, and timely transport services for students, faculty, and staff. The role involves the coordination of daily transportation operations, maintenance of institutional vehicles, budget management, and compliance with safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation Management
- Oversee and manage daily transportation operations, including route planning, scheduling, and assignment of drivers.
- Ensure punctuality and reliability of transport services for students, faculty, and staff.
- Coordinate transport services for academic events, field trips, excursions, and special occasions.
Vehicle Maintenance & Safety
Ensure regular maintenance and servicing of all institutional vehicles.Manage repairs, replacements, and the procurement of new vehicles if required.Implement safety protocols, vehicle inspections, and emergency procedures.Monitor vehicle insurance, permits, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.Team Supervision
Supervise and manage a team of drivers, including recruitment and performance evaluation.Address and resolve any driver-related grievances and conflicts.Budget & Cost Control
Prepare and manage the transport budget, including fuel expenses, maintenance costs, and staff salaries.Implement cost-saving strategies while ensuring efficiency and quality of service.Maintain records of fuel consumption, vehicle logs, and other relevant documentation.Communication & Coordination
Act as the primary point of contact for transportation-related inquiries and complaints.Liaise with academic and administrative departments to fulfill transport requirements.Coordinate with local transport authorities and external vendors for services, if needed.Reporting & Documentation
Maintain accurate records of vehicle usage, maintenance schedules, and incidents.Prepare regular reports on transport operations, costs, and performance metrics.Ensure compliance with institutional policies and local regulations regarding transportation.Key Requirements
Bachelor’s degree with relevant experience of atleast 5 years.Proven experience as a Transport Manager or similar role, preferably in an educational setting.Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.Familiarity with safety standards, transport regulations, and compliance requirements.Ability to handle emergencies, resolve conflicts, and make quick decisions.Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.Valid driver's license and clean driving record.Desirable Skills
Experience in managing transport in a higher education environment.Knowledge of first aid and emergency response.
