Job description

Job Title : Joint Director / Additional Director – Government Relations

Location : Delhi

Experience : 15-20 years

Qualifications : Master’s degree or higher in Public Relations, business development, Political Science, Law, or related field preferred.

Job Purpose

To build and strengthen the Chamber’s relationship with key government stakeholders, policymakers, and regulatory authorities. The role focuses on advocacy, policy influence, and representing member interests to create a favourable business environment.

Key Responsibilities

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with topmost level of central and state government officials, industry associations, and think tanks.
  • Facilitate regular interactions (meetings, roundtables, conferences) between chamber members and key government stakeholders.
  • Identify and engage key decision makers for policy advocacy.
  • Networking with offices & protocol officers of Ministers at Central level and CMs at State level to facilitate meetings for leadership of the client organization
  • Relationship management with senior journalists in Media

Policy & Advocacy

  • Track and analyse government policies, legislations, and regulatory developments relevant to industry members.
  • Prepare policy briefs, position papers, and recommendations for government consultations & meetings along with subject matter heads in the organisation.
  • Pursue acceptance of policy advocacy representations, memorandums, and submissions made to ministries and regulatory bodies.
  • 3. Communication & Documentation

  • Good quality written and spoken communications, briefing notes, and presentations for leadership.
  • Maintain updated database of key government contacts and policy developments.

  • Proven networking skills to build and sustain relationships with government officials, industry leaders and partner organizations.
  • Ability to engage with senior bureaucrats, policymakers and industry stakeholders with professionalism and diplomacy.
  • Quick Thinking & Planning

  • Ability to develop advocacy strategies with concerned subject matter colleagues in the organization
  • Multitasking and planning to meet tight deadlines without compromise on quality of work.
  • Education and Experience

  • Postgraduate in Public Policy, business development, or related field preferred.
  • 15-20 years of experience in government relations, public relations or advocacy—preferably, in chambers, industry bodies, or consulting organisations.
  • Proven track record of engaging with ministries, regulators, and government institutions.
  • Skills (Soft and Functional)

    Communication & Influence

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to draft crisp, persuasive representations and formal letters.
  • Strong presentation and public-speaking abilities to represent the Chamber in meetings, conferences, and media interactions.
  • Negotiation and influencing skills to build consensus among stakeholders.
  • Interpersonal & Leadership Qualities

  • High level of integrity, discretion and political sensitivity.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented approach; ability to work across departments and with member organizations.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and work independently when required.
  • IT Skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) for document preparation, data analysis, and presentations.
  • Email and Calendar Management using MS Outlook or similar tools for scheduling and coordination.
  • Virtual Meeting Platforms (Zoom, MS Teams, Google Meet) for webinars, meetings, and online events.
  • Online Research Skills to gather industry data, track policy updates, and prepare briefing notes.
  • Familiar with the use of Artificial Intelligence tools, including ChatGPT and similar platforms, for enhancing efficiency and communication. Comfortable working in ERP environments and leveraging digital systems for process optimization and data-driven decision-making.
