Job Summary :
The Special Educator is responsible for providing individualized support to students with a range of disabilities to help them achieve their academic, social, and emotional potential. This role involves creating and implementing personalized educational plans, providing one-on-one or group instruction, and collaborating with other staff members to support the overall well-being and development of students.
Key Responsibilities :
Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Development :
- Develop, implement, and review Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities, ensuring that goals and accommodations are met.
- Modify and adapt lessons, activities, and assessments to meet the diverse needs of students.
Instructional Support :
Provide direct instruction in one-on-one, small group, or whole-class settings.Adapt classroom materials, instructional methods, and teaching strategies to support students with various learning needs.Behavior Management :
Implement behavioral interventions and strategies to support positive behavior and academic engagement.Work with students to develop social and emotional skills, encouraging self-regulation and positive interactions.Collaboration with Staff :
Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and administrators to create an inclusive learning environment.Participate in team meetings, professional development, and discussions about student progress.Assessment and Progress Monitoring :
Regularly assess student progress, adjust teaching methods accordingly, and provide feedback to students and parents.Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior, and other relevant data.Support for Families :
Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about their child’s progress, needs, and strategies for supporting learning at home.Provide resources and guidance to families to support their child’s development.Classroom and Materials Management :
Maintain an organized and supportive classroom environment.Ensure that all materials and resources are accessible to students with disabilities.Professional Development :
Stay updated with best practices in special education, new teaching strategies, and assistive technologies.Participate in training, workshops, and seminars to enhance skills and knowledge.Qualifications :
Education : Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Special Education or a related field (required).Certification : Certification in Special Education (depending on location or institution).Experience : Previous experience working with children with disabilities is preferred.
