Key Responsibilities
1. Strategy & Policy Development :
- Develop and implement the organization-wide EHS policy, frameworks, and standards in line with global and local regulations.
- Establish safety KPIs and benchmarks for warehouses, transport fleet, and distribution hubs.
- Lead sustainability initiatives and environmental management programs.
2. Compliance & Risk Management :
Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements (Factories Act, OSHA, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001, Pollution Control Board norms, Hazardous Waste Management, etc.).Oversee internal and external EHS audits, inspections, and risk assessments.Identify gaps, implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and maintain audit readiness.3. Warehouse & Logistics Safety :
Implement robust warehouse safety programs : fire safety, material handling, chemical storage, ergonomics, and vehicle movement controls.Develop and enforce transportation safety protocols : driver safety, load securing, route risk assessment, and emergency response during transit.Standardize safety procedures across multi-location warehouses and logistics hubs.4. Incident & Emergency Management :
Establish procedures for incident reporting, investigation, RCA, and CAPA.Develop and test emergency response plans for fire, accidents, natural calamities, or chemical spills.Ensure availability of safety equipment, PPE, and emergency preparedness kits across facilities.5. Training & Culture Building :
Conduct regular EHS training and awareness programs for employees, drivers, and contract workers.Promote a safety-first culture by driving behavioral safety initiatives and recognition programs.Build capability within regional EHS teams through structured mentoring.6. Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting :
Collaborate with cross-functional leaders (Operations, HR, Transport, Compliance) to integrate EHS in business processes.Liaise with external agencies, government authorities, and certification bodies for approvals and compliance.Publish regular EHS performance dashboards for leadership review.Key Skills & Competencies :
Strong knowledge of EHS regulations, audits, and compliance in logistics / warehousing.Experience in multi-site EHS management (warehouses, transport fleet, distribution centers).Excellent skills in risk assessment, incident investigation, and root cause analysis.Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and training facilitation ability.Knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001 / OHSAS 18001, EMS, and sustainability practices.Qualifications & Experience :
Bachelor's / Master's degree in Engineering, Environment, Occupational Health & Safety, or related field.15+ years of EHS experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role in logistics, warehousing, or supply chain industry.Certifications : NEBOSH / IOSH / Lead Auditor - ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 highly preferred.Proven track record of implementing large-scale safety programs and achieving measurable improvements.(ref : iimjobs.com)
