Role Purpose :
To digitally sculpt and model deities, motifs, relief panels, and architectural ornaments for large-scale granite monuments at the Mahabalipuram Cultural Theme Park. The Digital Sculptor will translate artistic sketches, traditional sculptures, and photographic references into detailed 3D digital models suitable for CNC stone machining and heritage-scale fabrication.
Key Responsibilities :
1.
3D Sculpting & Digital Modeling
Create high-resolution 3D sculptures using
ZBrush, Blender, Rhino, or Maya , based on concept sketches or clay models.
Develop intricate detailing, anatomy, ornamentation, and symbolic expressions consistent with Indian iconographic canons.
Ensure accurate proportioning, pose, and gesture as per Sthapathya and Shilpa Shastra principles.
2.
File Preparation for CNC Machining
Convert 3D sculptural data into clean, watertight
STL, OBJ, or IGES
formats for CAM processing.
Optimize polygon mesh, correct topology, and ensure uniform scale, wall thickness, and joinery compatibility.
Collaborate with CAD / CAM engineers to finalize toolpath-ready geometry.
3.
Integration & Collaboration
Work closely with
architects, sculptors, historians, and CAM programmers
to ensure cultural, structural, and machining accuracy.
Participate in review sessions for aesthetic validation and proportion correction.
Incorporate feedback from art directors and Sthapathis for refinements.
4.
Quality & Documentation
Maintain organized digital libraries with version control for all sculptural files.
Prepare renders, orthographic views, and exploded layouts for approvals and production reference.
Support prototype creation, 3D printing, or scale mockups for validation before stone machining.
Software Proficiency :
Primary :
ZBrush, Blender, Rhino 3D, or Maya.
Support Tools :
Substance Painter, Photoshop, Fusion 360, Meshmixer, AutoCAD.
Output Formats :
STL, OBJ, IGES, STEP, DXF, PNG / JPEG (for previews).
Qualifications & Experience :
Diploma / BFA / B.Des / B.Tech in Fine Arts, Digital Media, Industrial Design, or Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum
3–5 years
of experience in digital sculpting or 3D modeling for art, architecture, or manufacturing.
Strong portfolio demonstrating mastery of form, detail, and cultural themes.
Experience in
heritage or temple art
preferred.
Skills & Attributes :
Strong sense of artistic anatomy, proportion, and balance.
Familiarity with Indian iconography and traditional temple art forms.
Ability to interpret sketches, photos, or clay models into 3D digital format.
Detail-oriented, creative, and disciplined in workflow.
Team player capable of coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams.
Deliverables :
Approved digital 3D models for each assigned sculpture or motif.
CNC-ready STL / OBJ files with complete documentation and renders.
Revision history and metadata as per MAMAT’s file protocol.
