Key Responsibilities :
Clinical Leadership :
- Perform complex oncologic surgeries (e.g., breast, GI, thoracic, head & neck, gynecologic, soft tissue) in accordance with current evidence-based practices.
- Lead multidisciplinary tumor boards and case discussions, guiding comprehensive cancer care decisions.
- Supervise and mentor surgical teams, including junior consultants, registrars, fellows, and residents.
- Ensure the integration of surgical care with medical and radiation oncology services.
Operational & Strategic Oversight :
Oversee the surgical oncology unit's performance, patient outcomes, and quality of care.Develop and implement clinical protocols, surgical pathways, and quality benchmarks.Collaborate with hospital leadership to expand oncology services and adopt new technologies.Ensure compliance with accreditation standards (NABH, JCI, etc.) and clinical governance protocols.Academic & Research Contributions :
Contribute to or lead institutional academic programs including resident training, CME, and surgical skill labs.Initiate and support clinical research, trials, and publications in surgical oncology.Represent the department at national and international forums, enhancing institutional visibility.Patient-Centered Care & Communication :
Engage patients and families in informed decision-making regarding treatment options, outcomes, and expectations.Advocate for holistic, compassionate, and ethical care throughout the cancer journey.Manage high-risk or complex surgical cases, referrals, and second opinions.Team & Talent Development :
Build and sustain a high-performing surgical oncology team.Mentor junior staff in clinical and leadership competencies.Drive continuous education, skill upgradation, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.Qualifications and Experience :
Educational Qualification :MBBS with MS / DNB in General SurgeryMCh / DNB in Surgical Oncology or equivalent recognized super-specialty qualificationExperience :10–15+ years of experience in surgical oncology, with a proven track record of leadership in a tertiary care setupExperience in handling high-complexity cancer surgeries and multidisciplinary care coordinationLicensure :Valid registration with State / National Medical CouncilKey Skills & Competencies :
Advanced surgical skills in oncology across multiple organ systemsDeep understanding of cancer biology, treatment protocols, and staging systemsLeadership and team management in high-pressure clinical environmentsStrong communication, empathy, and patient counseling skillsStrategic thinking and operational planning capabilitiesResearch acumen and familiarity with academic publishingDesirable Attributes :
Fellowship or international training in Surgical Oncology / Robotic or Minimally Invasive OncologyParticipation in national cancer networks, societies (e.g., ASI, SSO, ESMO)Experience in setting up or scaling oncology departmentsProficiency in robotic or advanced laparoscopic cancer surgeriesTeaching experience in DNB / MCh programsSkills Required
