We are seeking an Assistant Systems Architect to help build the technical foundation for our educational game experiences. This is a freelance , contracted, remote role ideal for someone who understands the inner workings of games, from gameplay flow and UI logic to data structures and system dependencies and knows how to make those systems work cleanly in Unity and web environments.
In this role, you’ll work closely with the Technical Systems Architect and Lead Game Designer to plan and document how our games function under the hood. You’ll contribute to gameplay system design, backend logic, and web-based or Unity-based deployments. This role involves creating scalable, modular architecture that supports engaging, browser-accessible learning games.

Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Systems Architect to design, plan, and document system architecture for Our English educational games. This includes gameplay frameworks, data flows, backend integrations, and UI logic.
- Assist in defining technical requirements and system specifications to support scalability, cross-platform delivery, and web-based deployment.
- Create and maintain system diagrams, flowcharts, and technical documentation outlining architecture decisions and dependencies.
- Support game prototype development by integrating modular systems and testing interactions between core components.
- Identify and resolve systems issues through testing, debugging, and iterative improvements based on feedback provided by stakeholders and the Lead Game Designer.
- Collaborate with designers, developers, and artists to ensure that the gameplay system structure aligns with creative and functional goals.
- Contribute to performance optimization by analyzing system bottlenecks and proposing efficient solutions.
- Track and version system updates through structured documentation and version control tools.
Qualifications
Strong portfolio demonstrating game system design, technical architecture, or similar work on web-based applications or Unity projects.Familiarity with game engines such as Unity and web application frameworks (JavaScript / TypeScript, HTML5 / CSS, WebGL).Understanding of game system design and architecture principles.Experience with version control tools (e.g., GitHub, GitLab) and documentation platforms (e.g., JIRA / Confluence, Notion).Basic scripting or programming skills as they pertain to gameplay (C#, JavaScript, or equivalent).Excellent communication and organizational abilities.Comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment with shifting prioritiesExcellent written communication and collaboration skills in a remote settingAttention to detail with a flexible, problem-solving mindsetPreferred Skills
Experience with data architecture, backend integrations, or multiplayer systems.Familiarity with web deployment pipelines and optimization for browser-based games.Comfortable picking up new technologies and implementing foreign API into Unity or HTML5 projects.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Game Development, or equivalent professional experience (preferred).Physical Requirements
This is a remote, computer-based role. The position requires prolonged periods of sitting and working at a desk, as well as regular use of a computer, mouse, and keyboard.
