The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for : developing a mechanical design which meets the requirements of the proposal or projectensuring design phase outputs are delivered in line with the time schedule and quality requirementsundertaking other technical tasks as required (e.g. site surveys, feasibility studies, support to sales, etc)In general, the Mechanical Engineer will work as part of a team and will collaborate closely with other team membersand functional disciplines to ensure successful delivery of the project or bid scope.PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe Mechanical Engineer’s duties include, but are not limited to the following : Mechanical EngineerThe primary role will be to undertake mechanical engineering design tasks on projects or proposals, including : Safety & Environmento Ensuring that, with respect to the scope of works for which SPX Flow are responsible : Plant designs are safeEnvironmental impacts of our designs have been considered appropriatelyo Participating in relevant reviews, as defined in SPX Flow procedures and, additionally, customercontracts, and ensuring that her / his resultant actions have been completed. (Example reviewsinclude : Design Reviews, Risk Assessments)o Ensuring compliance with local legislation and regulations (for the locality of the plant / process)which apply to engineering design (e.g. EU Machinery Directive)o Acting in a safe fashion, particularly when operating outside of the known office environment (e.g.on customer and supplier sites)Mechanical Design Taskso Generating process solutions and defining their characteristics in terms of : P&ID diagramsEquipment and fabricated item specifications (e.g. vessel specifications)Layout and elevational diagrams2D & 3D piping diagramsDimensioned manufacturing diagrams (e.g. skidded system designs, pipe supportstructures)Material listsLoading / foundation requirementsTransportation, ingress, egress and maintenance access requirementso Adhering to SPX Flow procedures, and utilising applicable tools and design standards, during thedevelopment of mechanical designso Ensuring that tasks are completed in accordance with the project schedule, to the required qualityand within the allocated budget.Design Ownershipo Ensuring that the design, for which they are responsible, is functional, and is executed in linewith : Applicable legislation and regulationCustomer contractual requirements (or, in case of proposal, RFQ / URS requirements)SPX references, standards and best practices, where applicableo Ensuring that design output is complete and of a consistent standard. Examples include ensuringthat : Documentation (e.g. P&IDs, FDS) utilises common standards across the project / proposaland that it is delivered to a consistent level in terms of content and qualityProject specific “equipment catalogues” are used to support item selectiono Ensuring all scope elements / sub-systems for which they are responsible integrate coherently andthat external interfaces are clearly understood and definedo Considering economic factors with a view to ensuring that the overall project is delivered onbudgetCommunication & Team Workingo Part of technical discussions with customers and supplierso Attending relevant project or proposal meetings e.g. : Launch / “kick-off” meetingsProgress reviewsDesign reviewso Communicating information to stakeholders in a timely fashiono Supporting other disciplines, during the design phase, to achieve project or proposal deliverablese.g.Supply Chain (e.g. initial specification, review of supplier quotes, purchase requisitions,etc)Process design (e.g. interpreting P&ID requirements)Electrical design (e.g. agreeing panel positions and cable runs)o Supporting Installation & Commissioning team during the site execution phase e.g. : communicating design intentassisting with planning of equipment ingress / positioninghighlighting critical installation requirementsassisting with resolution of design issueso Assisting with hand-over of design information to Aftermarket teamDocumentationo Ensuring that all design information is captured, stored and maintained, in the allocated location,in a structured and accessible fashiono Assisting in compilation of Technical Files, or equivalent, as defined by relevant legislation (e.g.EU Machinery Directive)Additional Sales Support & Proposals Taskso Undertaking pre-contract studies (e.g. feasibility, site surveys)o Reviewing technical aspects of quotation textKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIESFluent English – both spoken and writtenGood communication skillsAbility to work on multiple tasks, within a matrix environmentAbility and willingness to work and build relationships with colleagues across multiple functions andgeographically diverse sitesGood analytical and problem-solving skillsGood initiative and ability to work independentlyThe ability to meet high performance standards in a team whilst maintaining ethics and integrityEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEDegree / Diploma / ITI Draftsman in appropriate engineering discipline (e.g. Mechanical)Knolwedge of Piping will be an added advantageExperience of Autodesk products (e.g. AutoCAD Mechanical, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Inventor)Engineering design experience, preferably in Food, Beverage, Pharmaceutical and / or other hygienicindustriesUnderstanding of sanitary design principles as applied to design of piping systems and associatedprocess equipmentExperience / understanding of systems designed for clean-in-place (CIP)Experience of working within a technically oriented teamGood level of competence in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and AutoCADSAP experiences beneficial
