| About the role :

The AI Engineering team at Foodsmart is at the heart of transforming how millions of people access personalized nutrition and care. From building conversational experiences and predictive models to optimizing personalized outreach, the team integrates intelligent systems across the entire member journey. The Staff AI Engineer will play a critical role in designing and deploying solutions that drive real-world impact—like tailoring communications, improving engagement, and reducing missed appointments. We’re looking for someone who thrives in applying modern AI to practical challenges and who’s excited to shape the future of digital foodcare through scalable, thoughtful innovation.

You will :

Develop scalable, high-performance backend applications using TypeScript, Node.js, and relational databases like PostgreSQL or MySQL.

Build and maintain APIs and microservices that enable real-time and batch inference of AI / ML models.

Fine-tune and adapt pre-trained models (e.g., LLMs, classification models) for specific business use cases.

Integrate external AI services (e.g., OpenAI, Hugging Face, Google Vertex AI) where appropriate.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams—ML engineers, software developers, product managers, and DevOps—to deliver end-to-end AI-powered features.

Contribute to MLOps workflows, including deployment, versioning, and monitoring of models in production.

Follow engineering best practices for clean code, testing, observability, and reliability.

Stay up to date with advancements in AI tooling and infrastructure to continuously improve system performance and model impact.

You are :

A strong backend engineer with experience building robust systems and a passion for applied AI.

Proficient in Node.js, TypeScript, and SQL, with experience delivering production-grade services.

Familiar with deploying and integrating ML models into applications, including fine-tuning pre-trained models.

Comfortable working across backend systems and AI pipelines.

A team player with excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Detail-oriented and proactive about writing secure, maintainable, and scalable code.

You have :

8+ years of professional software engineering experience

3+ years of backend development with TypeScript and Node.js

3+ years of hands-on experience deploying AI / ML models (e.g., Hugging Face, OpenAI, or similar frameworks)

Strong proficiency with SQL and experience using PostgreSQL or MySQL

Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and CI / CD pipelines

Exposure to MLOps tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, MLflow, or Airflow

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
