ReleaseOwl is a SAP DevOps and Continuous Delivery platform that simplifies and automates change management across SAP landscapes. We help enterprises modernize their SAP delivery using DevOps practices, Git enabled CTS, automation and intelligent governance across S4HANA, ECC, BTP, Integration Suite, SAC and more.
We are looking for a hands on ABAP Architect with excellent troubleshooting and strong debugging skills to drive the technical design and implementation of our ABAP based solutions and integrations with the ReleaseOwl platform.
Role Summary
As an ABAP Architect at ReleaseOwl, you will own the overall technical architecture and quality of our ABAP components across on premise ECC and S4HANA systems. You will design scalable and maintainable frameworks that integrate with Git enabled CTS, STMS, BTP services and the ReleaseOwl SaaS platform.
You will work closely with product management, solution architects and customers to translate DevOps and governance requirements into robust ABAP solutions, guiding a small team of developers and setting best practices and standards.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture and Design
- Define the overall architecture for ABAP based components used by ReleaseOwl for transport management, retrofit, governance and analytics.
- Design reusable frameworks, classes and patterns for transport handling, logging, audit trails, exception handling and performance optimization.
- Evaluate and design enhancements using BAdIs, user exits, enhancement spots and implicit or explicit enhancements where native options are not available.
- Own technical design documents, solution blueprints and code review checklists for ABAP deliverables.
Development, Debugging and Integration
Lead development of ABAP objects such as classes, function modules, reports, CDS views, OData services, RAP based services and APIs needed by ReleaseOwl.Build and optimize integrations with STMS, gCTS, CTS projects, SAP Cloud Connector and BTP endpoints.Use advanced debugging techniques to analyze complex issues across transports, background jobs, OData calls and integration flows and provide clear fixes or design changes.Implement robust APIs and OData services that can be consumed by the ReleaseOwl platform and external tools.Ensure compatibility across ECC, S4HANA and where possible different SAP releases.Quality, Performance and Governance
Define and enforce development standards for ABAP, including naming conventions, performance guidelines, error handling, security and debugging practices.Set up and use ATC, code inspections and unit testing frameworks for continuous quality checks.Analyze performance issues and optimize SQL, buffer usage, locking and parallel processing where needed.Collaborate with product and customer teams to incorporate security and compliance requirements into designs.Leadership and Collaboration
Mentor ABAP developers, review designs and code, and provide technical coaching with a strong focus on debugging and root cause analysis.Work with solution architects and presales to validate feasibility of product features and customer specific requirements.Participate in customer workshops and implementation projects as the ABAP subject matter expert.Collaborate with UI, integration and platform teams to ensure end to end solutions are consistent and maintainable.Required Skills and Experience
8 plus years of experience in SAP ABAP development, including at least 3 plus years in an architect or lead role.Strong expertise in :
Object oriented ABAPEnhancement frameworks (BAdIs, enhancement spots, user exits)ALV, reports, function modules and background jobsOData services and or RAP based developmentProven strong debugging skills using tools like the ABAP Debugger, SAT, ST05, ST12 and in cross system scenarios involving RFC, IDoc, OData and background jobs.Hands on experience with transports, STMS configuration and preferably gCTS.Good understanding of retrofit concepts in SAP change management, including how retrofit identifies and synchronizes changes between maintenance and project landscapes.Experience with ATC, unit testing and performance analysis.Ability to write clean, modular and well documented code and to review and improve code written by others.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to break down complex requirements into practical designs.Good communication skills and comfort working with cross functional teams and customers.Nice to Have
Experience with DevOps practices in the SAP world and tools such as Git, CI or CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks.Exposure to SAP BTP ABAP Environment or cloud ready ABAP development.Experience integrating with SAP Solution Manager, SAP Cloud ALM or other ALM tools.Experience working in a product company or building reusable frameworks or add ons.Education
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or related field, or equivalent practical experience.What We Offer
