Job description

Sr. SQL Server Database Administrator

Roles and Responsibilities :

  • Collaborate closely with Application Developers to design, test, implement, optimize, and maintain efficient transactional and analytical data models.
  • Lead and engage in tuning, upgrade, and configuration projects to enhance database performance and ensure stability.
  • Optimize and manage backup jobs and schedules, while maintaining Production, Disaster Recovery (DR), and Development environments.
  • Troubleshoot database and data-related issues as they arise.
  • Provide ad-hoc data reporting and data extraction for Analytics teams.
  • Perform various ad-hoc data loading and manipulation tasks as needed.
  • Manage routine data exports for clients, partners, and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
  • Create and manage scheduled tasks and data processing scripts.
  • Document data collection, processing, and presentation procedures.
  • Support the architecture and process flow diagrams for data systems.
  • Participate in the evaluation, design, implementation, maintenance, support, and enhancement of sophisticated database systems and technologies.
  • Manage all levels of database security and integrity, including transaction activity and utilization.
  • Define and document policies, procedures, and standards related to database administration.
  • Troubleshoot database issues, perform recovery, tune the database, install software, and resolve SQL Server errors and failures.
  • Facilitate database backup and recovery, documenting and testing all backup and recovery procedures.
  • Ensure service level availability for all production and non-production SQL Server environments.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise :

  • Set up Test, Development, Staging, and Production environments, including SQL Server installation.
  • Implement Disaster Recovery strategies.
  • Create linked servers to SQL Servers and other databases such as Oracle and PostgreSQL, focusing on security and general administration.
  • Design a comprehensive database backup and restoration strategy, utilizing SQL Server Agent.
  • Work as part of a team to provide 24 / 7 support.
  • Monitor database backups to ensure they are performed regularly using SQL Server Agent.
  • Recover databases to a specific point in time upon request, following established backup and recovery procedures.
  • Set up High Availability as part of the Disaster Recovery strategy for databases, including Failover Clustering, Database Mirroring, Log Shipping, Replication, and Always On.
  • Troubleshoot various issues that arise in day-to-day operations and implement fixes, including monitoring SQL Server error logs and email alerts.
  • Conduct monitoring and performance tuning at the physical server level, database level, and query level, including creating and maintaining indexes, adjusting memory settings, and monitoring CPU usage and Disk I / O activity.
  • Document major changes to SQL Servers and apply service packs as necessary.
