Role Overview
We are seeking a dynamic, results-oriented Area Sales Manager to lead sales operations for a leading Indian FMCG powerhouse. This role is pivotal in driving market share through strategic distribution expansion and leading a high-performing field force. The ideal candidate will be a "market shaper" who thrives in a fast-paced, competitive environment.
Core Responsibilities
Strategic Growth: Develop and execute annual and monthly sales plans to achieve top-line and bottom-line targets for the assigned territory.
Channel Management: Management of the entire distribution lifecycle, including appointment of new distributors, ROI analysis, and maintaining healthy credit cycles.
Sales Force Excellence: Lead, mentor, and monitor a team of Sales Officers and Frontline Executives. Conduct regular joint calls to coach the team on "Perfect Store" execution.
Market Intelligence: Monitor competitor activities (schemes, pricing, and visibility) and provide actionable insights to the National/Regional leadership.
Merchandising & Visibility: Ensure 100% execution of BTL activities and maintain dominant shelf-space across General Trade (GT) and Kirana outlets.
Inventory & Logistics: Coordinate with the supply chain team to ensure zero-stock-out situations at the distributor point.
Requirements
Candidate Requirements:
Experience: 4–8 years in FMCG Sales (GT focus). Biscuits/Confectionery/Beverage experience is a plus.
Education: Bachelor’s degree (Mandatory); MBA in Marketing/Sales (Preferred).
Skills: Strong negotiation, team management, and proficiency in MS Excel/PPT.
Language: Fluency in the local language is mandatory.

Responsibilities Achieve and exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual primary and secondary sales targets across all product categories including biscuits, cakes, juices, and chocolates. Monitor daily sales reports (DSR), analyze performance trends, and implement timely corrective actions to ensure target attainment. Expand and manage the distributor and super-stockist network to drive deeper market penetration in underserved areas. Evaluate and optimize the ROI of existing channel partners while onboarding new distributors in untapped regions. Maintain optimal inventory levels at distributor points to prevent stock-outs and overstocking. Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of Sales Officers and Pilot Sales Representatives through regular field visits, coaching, and performance tracking. Ensure strict adherence to beat plans and monitor team KPIs to drive accountability and efficiency. Execute trade marketing initiatives and promotional campaigns with a focus on maximizing impact and ROI. Ensure consistent product visibility and high-quality merchandising at all Point of Sale (POS) locations. Collect and analyze market intelligence on competitor pricing, product launches, and promotional strategies to inform business decisions. Requirements Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline (mandatory); MBA/PGDM in Marketing or Sales preferred. 4–8 years of proven experience in FMCG sales, with a strong background in General Trade (GT) operations. Demonstrated experience managing a sales team and overseeing a distributor network. Prior experience in the biscuits, confectionery, or beverage segment is highly desirable. Strong command of GT channel dynamics and channel sales strategies. Excellent negotiation, interpersonal, and relationship management skills. Ability to interpret sales data and derive actionable insights for performance improvement. Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and analysis.
