Team Leader — Due Diligence / Underwriting (U S Residential Mortgage)
Position Overview
The Team Leader will oversee a team of Due Diligence Underwriters / Review Specialists, ensuring high quality, timely assessments of residential mortgage files. The role involves leadership, coaching, process improvement, performance management, and accountability for meeting SLAs, accuracy, and client standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of due diligence underwriters / reviewers
- Assign, balance, and monitor workload to ensure that files are reviewed within agreed turnaround times (TAT)
- Conduct quality audits, peer reviews, and random checks to ensure consistency in decisioning
- Provide subject matter expertise in credit, appraisal / valuation, fraud, legal documentation, servicing history, and regulatory compliance
- Escalate and resolve complex or high-risk issues encountered by the team
- Establish, monitor, and report key metrics (e.g. error rate, TAT compliance, exceptions per file, rework rates)
- Collaborate with operations, originations, QC, legal, valuation, and compliance teams to refine processes and implement improvements
- Drive standardization of review checklists, templates, workflows, and best practices
- Lead training sessions, calibration meetings, and periodic updates on guideline changes or regulatory shifts
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, and talent development
- Ensure team adherence to client / investor criteria, rating agency standards, internal policies, and regulatory requirements
