About the Role :

The Marketplace Health team is on a mission to make complex business metrics explainable, actionable, and fast. Were building systems that provide clear, data-driven insights into why key marketplace indicators move with the goal of enabling teams across the company to react quickly, make smarter decisions, and ultimately, drive healthier marketplace dynamics.

This is a new charter, offering a unique opportunity to build from the ground up. We're looking for a Principal Engineer who can help define the technical vision, lay the architectural foundation, and influence short- and long-term goals for the team. If youre someone who thrives in ambiguity, takes ownership, and loves solving hard, high-impact problems this is the role for you.

What Youll Do :

• Lead the design, development, optimization, and productization of datasets and machine learning solutions to solve strategically important and loosely defined problems.
• Work at the intersection of ML, data engineering, and backend systems to create scalable, reusable, and reliable data solutions.
• Collaborate with product managers, scientists, and cross-functional leads to align technical direction with business objectives.
• Build tools that deliver real-time and batch explanations for changes in business metrics.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a high-performing team of backend, data, and ML engineers.
• Define and enforce best practices in software engineering, data quality, ML development, and system design.
• Translate abstract business questions into concrete engineering and analytical problems.
• Contribute to team strategy and roadmap by identifying opportunities, evaluating trade-offs, and managing technical debt.
