Role Purpose
The Head of HSE will be responsible for establishing, implementing, and continuously improving the organisation's Health, Safety & Environment management systems to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, industry best practices, and company standards. The role involves leading HSE initiatives, building a strong safety culture, and providing strategic direction to safeguard people, assets, the environment, and reputation. A background in Process Safety Management (PSM) will be considered a strong advantage, as the role requires oversight of high-risk process operations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and execute the company's HSE strategy aligned with business objectives and regulatory frameworks.
- Foster a proactive HSE culture across all levels of the organisation.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the site HSE teams and line managers.
Compliance & Governance
Ensure compliance with national and international HSE regulations, permits, and industry standards (OSHA, Factories Act, Environment Protection rules, etc.).Develop and implement HSE management systems, policies, and procedures.Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments, ensuring timely corrective actions.Operational HSE
Lead incident investigation, root cause analysis, and ensure implementation of preventive measures.Oversee HSE training, competency development, and awareness programs.Drive initiatives for occupational health, emergency preparedness, fire safety, and environmental protection.Implement behaviour-based safety (BBS) and hazard identification programs.Process Safety Management (Preferred)
Support implementation of the PSM framework, including elements such as hazard analysis, MOC (Management of Change), mechanical integrity, and emergency response.Provide expertise in high-risk operations such as hydrogen, ammonia, cryogenic storage, or chemical handling.Partner with operations, engineering, and projects teams to ensure inherent safety in design and operations.Stakeholder Engagement
Liaise with regulators, external agencies, and auditors on HSE matters.Collaborate with internal stakeholders to integrate HSE into business processes.Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's / Master's degree in Engineering / Environmental Science / Occupational Health & Safety or related discipline.15+ years of progressive HSE experience in large-scale industrial operations (preferably oil & gas, chemical, energy, hydrogen, or process industries).Strong knowledge of Indian and international HSE regulations, standards, and best practices.Preferred : Experience in Process Safety Management (PSM) implementation.Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, Lead Auditor (ISO 14001 / 45001) are desirable.Key Skills & Attributes
