Backend Lead – Real-Time Messaging & VoIP

Location : Bangalore / Hyderabad

Type : Full-Time | Immediate Joining Preferred

YAL is building a decentralized, AI-powered communication platform from the ground up — combining secure real-time messaging, voice / video calling, and intelligent fraud detection. Our mission is to deliver global communication infrastructure that prioritizes privacy, security, and performance without relying on centralized servers.

We’re looking for a Backend Lead – Real-Time Messaging & VoIP to join our core engineering team and help architect and scale the backend systems that power our real-time communication stack.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain backend services for messaging, group chat, voice / video calling, and user authentication.
  • Build and optimize real-time communication infrastructure using WebSockets, WebRTC, TURN / STUN, and related protocols.
  • Lead backend system architecture focused on scalability, low latency, and high availability.
  • Deploy and manage services on AWS or GCP using Docker, Kubernetes, and CI / CD pipelines.
  • Collaborate with mobile, AI, and frontend teams to ensure seamless feature integration and cross-platform consistency.
  • Ensure best practices in secure messaging, encryption, and session management.
  • Drive technical decisions, mentor engineers, and uphold engineering excellence across the team.

Requirements

  • Strong backend engineering experience with Go, Python, C / C++, or Node.js.
  • Proven experience building and scaling real-time systems, ideally for messaging or VoIP platforms.
  • Deep knowledge of WebRTC, TURN / STUN, SRTP, and media transport protocols.
  • Experience deploying cloud-native services on AWS or GCP.
  • Familiarity with authentication methods including OTP, JWT, and token-based auth flows.
  • Solid understanding of end-to-end encryption, secure communication pipelines, and user privacy principles.

    • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with decentralized / federated protocols such as Matrix, XMPP, or similar.
  • Familiarity with media servers like Jitsi, Janus, or mediasoup.
  • Understanding of fraud detection and AI-assisted moderation systems.
  • Prior experience with messaging platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, or similar real-time communication apps.
