Job Description

Job Title : Professional Diesel Mechanic

Summary

We are seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team, responsible for servicing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles and equipment across various sectors. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent diagnostic skills, and the ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced workshop environment.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose faults in diesel engines and related systems, including fuel, exhaust, cooling, transmission, and electrical systems
  • Repair, rebuild, or replace components such as fuel injectors, turbochargers, cooling systems, filters, and starters
  • Perform scheduled servicing, including oil changes, coolant flushes, and filter replacements
  • Maintain and repair vehicle and equipment electrical systems and controls
  • Conduct inspections and safety / emission compliance checks
  • Use diagnostic tools, software, and testing equipment
  • Maintain a clean and safe workshop environment, and ensure proper handling of hazardous materials
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors, and liaise with clients on repairs and cost estimates

Requirements

  • Relevant trade certificate or diploma in Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Automotive, Mechanical Engineering Technician, or similar
  • Formal training or apprenticeship in mechanical or diesel systems preferred
  • At least 2-4 years' experience working on diesel engines / vehicles / equipment
  • Experience in diagnostics, repair, and rebuilding of heavy vehicle or industrial machinery
  • Strong technical / mechanical aptitude and good understanding of engine systems, electrical, hydraulic, transmission, etc.
  • Proficient in using diagnostic tools and interpreting technical diagrams
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
  • Physically fit and able to handle heavy parts, work in workshops, possibly at heights or confined spaces
  • Good safety awareness and ability to adhere to safety, emissions, and environmental regulations
  • Good communication skills and ability to explain issues to clients or team
  • English language proficiency (PTE or IELTS certification required)

    Indicative pay : Starting from NZD $31.61 per hour (as per INZ median wage requirement),

    commensurate with skills, experience, and industry
