Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Design Engineer to own and drive the maintenance, evolution, and strategic roadmap of our Core Design System . This role is pivotal in ensuring our design system remains scalable, future-proof, and aligned with both business goals and end-user needs. The ideal candidate will blend expertise in design engineering, UX , and front-end technologies to deliver a consistent and effective design system across the organization.

You will work closely with product designers, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure our design system is robust, widely adopted, and fosters a culture of consistency, efficiency, and accessibility in product development.

Key Responsibilities :

Own the end-to-end lifecycle of the Core Design System - from daily operations to long-term strategy.
Define, maintain, and evolve reusable components, patterns, tokens, and guidelines.
Partner with designers, developers, and product managers to ensure system adoption across multiple products.
Build and implement governance frameworks and workflows that drive consistency, quality, and scalability.
Conduct UX design, usability testing, and research to inform improvements in the system.
Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of design system components into production applications.
Advocate for accessibility, performance, and responsive design best practices.
Monitor system adoption, gather feedback, and create processes for continuous improvement.
Lead community building efforts within the organization to promote awareness, contribution, and best practices around the design system.
Provide technical and UX leadership to designers, design engineers, and front-end developers working within the design system team.
Stay updated on emerging tools, frameworks, and industry best practices to ensure the design system remains modern and competitive.

Must-Have Skills :

Proven experience in building and maintaining design systems at scale.

Strong expertise with Figma (components, variants, tokens, libraries, auto-layout, Engineering / technical background with knowledge of front-end frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue).

Strong understanding of UX design principles, accessibility (WCAG / ARIA), and design processes.

Experience in setting up and leading governance structures and contribution models for design systems.

Experience working in a design system team environment with cross-functional collaboration.

Ability to handle projects independently, balancing business needs and user experience goals.

Strong stakeholder management skills, capable of interfacing with business partners and presenting design solutions.

Experience in UX research and usability testing Hands-on experience with design tokens and integration into development pipelines.

Familiarity with component libraries, Storybook, and design system documentation tools.

Understanding of performance optimization in design systems.

Strong UI design skills with attention to detail in visual consistency and scalability.

Knowledge of agile methodologies and working in product-based teams.

Experience with community-building initiatives (design meetups, workshops, office hours).

Exposure to CI / CD pipelines for design and front-end components.

Qualifications :

Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.

10 years of professional experience in design engineering, UX, or front-end development.

Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced, evolving environments with minimal supervision.

Creative, self-disciplined, and capable of identifying and completing critical tasks independently.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and align stakeholders.
