Role Overview
We’re seeking a Character Animator with a strong sense of weight, timing, and personality, skilled in animating stylised, combat-focused characters. You’ll work closely with our 3D artists, technical artists, and designers to bring a juicy, responsive feel to combat and gameplay. You’ll help define the motion language of gods and demons, from divine attacks to primal roars.
This role offers creative ownership, cross-functional collaboration, and direct impact on the moment-to-moment feel of the game.
Responsibilities
- Animate stylised heroes and enemies in 3D from idle to complex combat, spell, and death animations.
- Collaborate closely with the design and VFX teams to ensure timing, anticipation, and follow-through feel powerful and responsive in-game.
- Refine gameplay feel through iteration, ensuring attacks connect, reads are clear, and animations sync seamlessly with VFX and SFX.
- Contribute to cinematic moments (e.g., hero summon, ultimate moves, boss intros) in collaboration with narrative and lighting artists.
- Rig and skin characters as required, with a focus on mobile-optimised efficiency.
- Maintain animation libraries and naming conventions aligned with the Unity pipeline.
- Collaborate on animation style guides, helping define the energy, rhythm, and silhouette language of movement across the game.
Requirements
A strong showreel with an emphasis on gameplay / combat animation.Proficiency in Maya (Blender can be considered).Strong understanding of stylised animation principles - exaggeration, arcs, timing, secondary motion, and posing for readability.Ability to animate for responsiveness, not just beauty - understanding frame windows, hit timings, and blendspace logic.Strong functional understanding of rigging and weight painting for humanoids and creatures.Excellent communication skills, openness to feedback, and comfort working in a fast-moving indie environment.Bonus Qualifications
