SUMMARY
MasterControl is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Database Administrator to lead our database team as we evolve our hybrid data platform spanning traditional RDBMS, search engines and emerging vector databases. You will be responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of our organization's critical database systems, ensuring their reliability, security, and optimal performance. As a senior member of the team, you will mentor and guide junior database administrators and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement our data persistence strategies that support our business objectives and data-driven initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of database systems, ensuring they meet business requirements and adhere to industry best practices.
- Optimize database performance through tuning, indexing, and other techniques to ensure efficient data access and system response times.
- Implement and maintain data security measures, including access controls, data encryption, and regular security audits.
- Develop and maintain database backup and disaster recovery plans, ensuring the availability and integrity of our data assets.
- Monitor database systems for performance issues, proactively identifying and resolving problems to minimize downtime and maintain system reliability.
- Collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, and software developers to integrate database solutions with data pipelines, analytics platforms, and software applications.
- Mentor and guide junior database administrators, providing technical guidance and fostering a culture of learning and collaboration within the team.
- Able to support embedding refresh workflows and vector aware governance and familiar with search engines and alternatives.
- Stay current on emerging database technologies, trends, and best practices, identifying opportunities for their application within our data infrastructure.
SKILLS
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.8-10 years of experience in database administration roles, with a strong understanding of relational and NoSQL database systems.Expert knowledge of database management systems including MySQL, PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL ServerStrong SQL and query tuning skills, experience with database optimization techniques.Strong understanding of data security and privacy best practices and regulations, including GDPR and CCPA.Experience with database backup and disaster recovery planning and implementation.Familiarity with cloud-based database services, such as AWS RDS or Azure SQL DatabaseFamiliarity with vector databases and embedding workflows, semantic search and hybrid search strategies.Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.Outstanding communication and leadership abilities.Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly through various channels.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
