The purpose of the Operational Risk Management (ORM) function is to ensure that the bank’s Operational Risk (OR) exposure is adequately managed in-line with the group wide risk appetite and ORM framework. To achieve this, the ORM function requires :
- Risk Managers with the experience, seniority and capability to assess complex risks and intervene where they lie outside the bank’s risk appetite.
- A comprehensive, integrated, simple and easy to use OR Framework with supporting technology that assists risk identification, assessment, remediation and monitoring.
- Strong understanding of the businesses combined with regular engagement which would allow ORM to provide support, review and challenge in line with the 3 Lines of Defence Model.
- Proper consideration of emerging risks, rather than just current issues.
- Effective governance combined with supporting contextual data that facilitates decision-making.
ORM is a matrix organisation with business / region and functional specialist axes.
The role is a Regional OR Manager focusing on all Risk Owning groups across the region, in line with the ORM framework and mandate. Specifically, the role performs independent oversight on the implementation of the Group's ORM Framework within the Business Divisions and Infrastructure Functions and independently assess material risks and / or key controls (as required), providing independent review and challenge.

The ORM Regional Operational Risk Manager will be expected to effectively perform 2 Line of Defence (2LoD) responsibilities to include independent review and challenge, monitoring and assessment activities where ORM is the 2LoD Risk Type HeadKey responsibilities include :
Monitoring developments within Operational Risk Portfolio at a Regional level (e.g. loss exposure themes, Risk Metrics, Findings (internal / external), Key Controls, Self-Identified Issues (SIIs) and other contextual information) for all operating business within the respective region.Assist in the preparation of governance material for effective 2nd Line of Defence monitoring and challenge of operational risk across business divisions and infrastructure functions.Ensure that effective and demonstrable challenge to the risk owners where required : Pose clear, demonstrable and risk-based challengeAnalyze and document, evidence of effective challenge and resolutionKeep abreast and perform effective communication of changes in relevant OR frameworks, tools, laws etc. and understand their implications for the region of coverage.Act as primary point of contact for Regulatory inspections on OR matters for country or region covered.Syndicate Quantitative Risk Appetite calibration for the country / entity of coverage with Senior Management or in Governance forum and seek relevant approvals.Contribute to projects / task forces / working groups relating to the Operational Risk Framework or identified OR risk issues or operational risk incidents.Support management of the stakeholder relationships in the covered countries and businesses / functions.Monitor control environment in allocated Countries and Businesses and pro-actively manage deficiencies including timely escalation to management (i.e. SII, Findings, OR Event data quality and risk remediation).Escalate material OR Event and Risk Appetite breaches.Perform effective challenge on Risk identification and Assessment activities e.g. Review lessons learned, Read Across, New Product Approvals and Risk AcceptancesPromote Risk culture and visibility of ORM via training and participation in OR governance forums.Your skills and experience
Qualification requirement of Chartered Accountant (CA), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Bachelor in Commerce, Certification on Risk Management or equivalent5-8 years’ experience in a similar role within financial servicesA robust understanding of Operational Risk Management principles and practices and Risk Types, including but not limited to, Transaction Processing Risk, Technology Risk, Third Party Risk ManagementDemonstrable experience of developing strong working relationships with business areas to facilitate successful risk management within the 3 Lines of Defence model.Worked with Senior Stakeholders in a dynamic and demanding environment.Familiar with India and APAC local regulatory environment in the business and more broadly the regulator perspectives on Operational riskExpert in producing regulatory and management reports.Knowledge of Microsoft 365 tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.), Copilot / AI tools and its application in day to day working.How we’ll support you
