Role Overview
The Finance Manager will play a critical role within SMECs India operations (Gurugram), enabling financial planning, analysis, reporting, and control for engineering and consultancy projects. As a key finance business partner, you will work closely with project leads, operations, and senior management to ensure business targets are met, processes are efficient, and financial risks are mitigated.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for India operations / projects.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for business units and leadership.
- Analyze project profitability, cash flow trends, and cost drivers, providing insights and actionable recommendations.
2. Project Accounting & Cost Control
Work closely with Project Managers to track project costs vs. budget and ensure timely financial reporting.Implement cost control mechanisms to optimize utilization of resources, reduce cost overruns, and improve profitability.Review project financials, identify deviations, and propose corrective actions.3. Financial Reporting & Compliance
Prepare financial statements, P&L, balance sheet schedules, and other management reports adhering to statutory and internal reporting standards.Ensure compliance with Indian accounting standards, tax laws, and regulatory requirements.Coordinate with external auditors during statutory audits and support internal audit activities.4. Cash Flow & Working Capital Management
Monitor and manage cash flow, working capital, and liquidity position for Indian operations.Forecast cash requirements, manage short-term financing, and work with the treasury function (if applicable).Liaise with vendors, clients, and internal teams to ensure timely payments and collections.5. Risk Management & Controls
Develop and maintain robust internal financial controls to mitigate risk.Oversee financial risk assessment, including project risk, foreign-exchange risk (if relevant), and credit risk.Ensure compliance with corporate financial policies and best practices.6. Stakeholder Management
Partner with business leads (Engineering, Operations, Projects) to understand business needs, help shape financial strategy, and support decision-making.Present financial results, key metrics, and strategic recommendations to senior management.Support cross-functional initiatives (e.g., process improvements, cost optimization, business transformation).7. Strategic Business Support
Provide financial insight to support bids, contract negotiations, and business proposals.Perform financial modeling, ROI / NPV analysis, and scenario planning for new business opportunities.Contribute to strategic planning initiatives, aligning financial objectives with SMECs long-term goals.8. Team Leadership & Collaboration
Mentor and guide junior finance team members (if any) in finance operations and reporting.Facilitate knowledge sharing and build financial competency across project teams.Required Qualifications & Skills
Education : Chartered Accountant (CA) / MBA Finance / Cost & Management Accountant / similar.
Experience : 4-5 years in finance roles, preferably with exposure to infrastructure, engineering consultancy, or project-based business.
Technical Skills :
Strong financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting experience.Excellent working knowledge of MS Excel, PowerPoint, and financial reporting tools.Familiarity with ERP or accounting systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or others) is preferred.Accounting & Compliance Knowledge : Understanding of Indian GAAP, tax regulations, and statutory compliance.
Analytical Competencies : Strong business acumen, problem-solving skills, and the ability to analyze financial data to drive Skills : Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
Interpersonal Skills : Proven ability to work cross-functionally and build relationships with project leaders, senior management, and external stakeholders.
Attention to Detail : High level of accuracy and strong organizational skills.
Preferred / Desirable Skills
Experience in consulting or infrastructure / engineering companies.Knowledge of project finance, contract accounting, and international business operations.Experience working in a global or matrix organization.Proficiency in data analytics / visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau).Prior exposure to risk management, treasury, or internal audit functions.Why Join SMEC?
