About the Role :
Virtual Building Studio is looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Laser Scanning Registration Specialist (Data Processing Technician) to join our team.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for ensuring that raw laser scanning data received from clients is accurately registered, aligned, and prepared for downstream workflows such as Scan-to-BIM (S2B) and Scan-to-CAD (S2C) .
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with point cloud data from multiple scanner types and proficiency in registration, stitching, and quality control processes using industry-standard tools.
Key Responsibilities :
- Import, clean, align, and register raw point cloud data from various laser scanners (Leica, FARO, Trimble, NavVis, etc.).
- Perform accurate target-based and cloud-to-cloud registration and stitching of scan data.
- Deliver final registered datasets in formats such as .e57, .rcp, .las, .ptx, .pts, .xyz , as per project requirements.
- Ensure quality control for completeness, alignment accuracy, and usability in downstream S2B / S2C processes.
- Collaborate with project managers, BIM / CAD teams, and clients to ensure timely and accurate deliverables.
- Maintain organized documentation of registration workflows, file structures, and versioning.
- Troubleshoot and resolve registration or data alignment issues efficiently.
- Stay updated on new technologies, software updates, and best practices in laser scanning and registration.
Required Skills and Qualifications :
Minimum 3 years of experience in laser scan data registration and processing.Proficiency in registration software, including :Leica CycloneFARO SceneNavVis IVION / CoreCloudCompare, ReCap, or 3DReshaper (as applicable)Strong understanding of scanner file formats (.e57, .las, .ptx, .rzf, .fls, .rcs / .rcp, etc.).Experience with both terrestrial and mobile scanning workflows.Familiarity with georeferencing and coordinate transformation techniques.Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to data accuracy.Ability to work independently and manage multiple concurrent projects.Strong communication skills for working with technical and non-technical stakeholders.Preferred Qualifications :
Educational background in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related fields.Experience working with drone or LiDAR datasets .Knowledge of Scan-to-BIM (S2B) and Scan-to-CAD (S2C) workflows using Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, or ArchiCAD.Benefits :
