Job Title : HOD - Special Educator

Role Overview
The HOD – Special Education leads the Special Education Needs (SEN) department, ensuring inclusive education practices, effective program implementation, and support for students with diverse learning needs. The role involves academic leadership, team management, collaboration with stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and educational standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Department Management
- Provide strategic direction and vision for the Special Education Department.
- Lead, mentor, and supervise special educators, shadow teachers, counsellors, and therapists.
- Develop yearly department goals, action plans, and progress reports.
- Manage departmental schedules, workloads, and resources efficiently.
2. Student Support & Individual Plans
Oversee the creation, implementation, and review of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Intervention Plans (BIPs) .Ensure proper assessment, documentation, and tracking of student progress.Coordinate accommodations, modifications, and classroom support practices.Conduct or facilitate student assessments and screenings for learning difficulties.3. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Work closely with class teachers, coordinators, and subject HODs to integrate inclusive practices.Collaborate with parents through regular meetings, counselling, and progress updates.Liaise with external therapists, psychologists, and medical experts as needed.4. Training & Capacity Building
Plan and conduct professional development workshops for teachers on inclusive education.Guide teachers on classroom strategies, behavioural management, and differentiation.Build awareness around neurodiversity, learning disabilities, and mental health.5. Compliance & Documentation
Ensure compliance with CBSE / IB / ICSE board guidelines, government norms (RPWD Act), and institutional policies.Maintain accurate records of IEPs, assessments, progress notes, and interventions.Prepare reports for audits, inspections, and academic reviews.6. Program Development
Introduce and implement new strategies, tools, and technologies for SEN support.Develop life skills, social-emotional learning, and transition programs for students.Monitor the effectiveness of intervention programs and modify as required.7. Behaviour & Crisis Management
Support teachers in handling behavioural issues in classrooms.Create protocols for crisis intervention and emotional support.Ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all learners.Qualifications & Skills
Education
Master’s in Special Education (M.Ed. Special Education) or equivalent.RCI certification mandatory .Experience
7–10 years of relevant experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or coordinator role.Core Skills
Expertise in learning disabilities, behavioural needs, developmental disorders.Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.Ability to guide teachers and manage multiple stakeholders.Knowledge of IEP frameworks, assessments, and intervention tools.Excellent documentation and reporting abilities.
