Job description

Role : Alation Data Modeler

Location : Hyderabad / Chennai

Experience : 3 to 5 years

Skills :

  • Data Modeling & Metadata Management :
  • Develop and maintain logical and physical data models using Alation and other modeling tools.
  • Curate and manage metadata, business glossaries, and lineage information in the Alation Data Catalog.
  • Collaborate with data architects and engineers to align models with enterprise data standards.
  • Process Design & Automation :
  • Define and implement data onboarding, cataloging, and approval workflows in Alation.
  • Streamline metadata ingestion from sources like BigQuery, Snowflake, Teradata, or GCS.
  • Contribute to data governance and stewardship processes for improved data discoverability and compliance.
  • Data Validation & Quality Assurance :
  • Develop and execute data validation checks to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency across systems.
  • Implement automated validation frameworks using SQL, Python, or data quality tools.
  • Track and resolve data issues through Alation workflows and lineage traceability.
  • Collaboration & Enablement :
  • Partner with data owners, analysts, and governance teams to enhance catalog adoption.
  • Conduct training and knowledge-sharing sessions on Alation usage, modeling best practices, and validation standards.
  • Support audits and compliance reporting through metadata and process documentation.

Required Skills & Qualifications :

  • Strong hands-on experience with Alation Data Catalog (metadata curation, lineage, and governance workflows).
  • Proficiency in data modeling tools and standards (ER / Studio, Erwin, DBT, or equivalent).
  • Excellent SQL and data validation skills across relational and analytical databases.
  • Experience with data quality frameworks and validation automation using Python or similar scripting languages.
  • Good understanding of data governance, lineage, and cataloging processes.
  • Experience working with cloud data platforms (GCP BigQuery, Snowflake, or Azure Synapse).

    • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Exposure to data observability and data issue triaging processes.
  • Knowledge of business glossary integration, policy enforcement, and Alation APIs.
  • Familiarity with ETL / ELT pipelines and metadata harvesting from tools like Airflow, Informatica, or DBT.

    • Certification or training in Alation, data governance, or cloud data platforms
