Role summary

Hiring a hands-on Performance Engineer for AppScan Enterprise (on-prem : Liberty + IIS servers, agent machines, DB server, containerised target apps). You’ll own load, stress, soak, spike and scalability testing; maintain the perf lab fully; automate test execution and environment setup; systematically compare performance against established baselines and trace regressions to specific component changes; debug performance degradations at Liberty, IIS, DB, agent, or container layers with minimal handoffs.

Key Responsibilities

Performance testing & analysis

  • Design & run load, stress, soak, spike tests across ASE stack (Liberty + IIS + agents + DB + containerised targets).
  • Compare current results with baseline metrics; detect regressions, produce clear RCA, and tune Liberty JVM / IIS / DB / agent / container settings.
  • Define SLAs, benchmarks, and capacity targets for all components.

Perf lab & environment management

  • Install, upgrade, patch ASE components : server VM, agents, DB server, Liberty & IIS servers, plus the containerised targets.
  • Maintain versioned, reproducible setups (VMs, containers, configs) to ensure consistent and comparable test runs.
  • Ensure environmental isolation and stability to prevent drift or inconsistencies between runs.
  • Automation & DevOps for perf lab

  • Automate installation, patching, environment provisioning and teardown with scripts / tools suited for on-prem Windows + Liberty environments.
  • Build pipelines for scheduled test runs, results gathering, automated reporting, and alerting.
  • Monitoring, observability & RCA

  • Capture telemetry : Liberty metrics (JVM / feature load), IIS counters, agent logs, DB performance metrics, container logs & traces under load.
  • Use monitoring, tracing, metrics and logs to isolate configuration, code, resource or agent related bottlenecks; deliver reproducible root cause diagnostics.
  • Collaboration & delivery

  • Collaborate with Dev, QA, and Product teams to ensure performance considerations are built into design; produce fixes with clear repro steps and measurable improvements.
  • Share best practices for ASE-specific performance testing, lab setup / maintenance, baseline-regression approaches, and automation hygiene.
  • Required skills & experience (must-have)

  • 6-10+ years in performance engineering ; Automation, site reliability ; DevOs with hands-on experience in on-prem Windows + Liberty + IIS environments + SQL DB.
  • Strong experience with load / stress test tools (e.g. JMeter, k6, Gatling) in multi-component setups.
  • Solid scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, or Bash) for ASE installs / patching, lab setup, and test orchestration.
  • Deep experience tuning and debugging Liberty JVM, IIS configuration, DB server, agents, and containerised target apps.
  • Proven ability to use telemetry / observability tools (metrics, logs, traces) under load for baseline comparison & regression RCA.
