Key Responsibilities :
1. Pre-operative Assessment
- Evaluate patients scheduled for cardiac and thoracic surgeries, including risk stratification.
- Review medical history, investigations, and optimize comorbidities.
- Obtain informed consent and counsel patients / families about anesthesia procedures and risks.
2. Intra-operative Anesthesia Management
Administer and manage general anesthesia for procedures such as :CABG, valve replacements, congenital heart surgeries, aortic surgeries, and heart / lung transplants.Perform invasive monitoring (arterial lines, CVP, PA catheters) and ensure hemodynamic stability.Use and interpret intra-operative transesophageal echocardiography (TEE).3. Post-operative and ICU Management
Oversee patient transfer and handover to cardiac ICU.Provide post-operative pain management and sedation protocols.Monitor for complications such as bleeding, arrhythmias, low cardiac output, etc.4. Coordination & Communication
Collaborate with cardiac surgeons, perfusionists, intensivists, and nursing staff for perioperative care.Participate in pre-op planning meetings and post-op debriefings.5. Teaching, Training & Research (Consultant Role)
Guide junior doctors, DNB residents, and anesthesia technicians.Participate in academic meetings, case discussions, and CMEs.Contribute to research, publications, or quality improvement initiatives.6. Quality & Safety Compliance
Follow infection control, transfusion protocols, and antibiotic policies.Maintain accurate documentation, anesthesia records, and ICU charts.Ensure adherence to hospital SOPs and accreditation (NABH / JCI) standards.Qualifications & Experience :
Education :MD / DNB in AnesthesiologyFellowship in Cardiac Anesthesia (preferred for Consultant role)Registration :Valid MCI / NMC or State Medical Council registrationExperience :Associate Consultant : 2–5 years in cardiac anesthesiaConsultant : 5–10+ years with demonstrated expertise in adult and / or pediatric cardiac casesSkills & Competencies :
Expertise in cardiac anesthesia protocols and cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) managementProficiency in TEE and invasive hemodynamic monitoringStrong clinical judgment and crisis management skillsExcellent teamwork, communication, and leadership abilitiesFamiliarity with ICU management and post-op care of cardiac patientsExperience with EMR / HIS and surgical scheduling systemsSkills Required
