The Role

The Work and Study Coordinator provides vocational services to young people who are referred for employment and education support as part of their care at headspace. This position will provide Individual Placement and Support (IPS) vocational services to young people with mental illness engaged in the headspace Centre. Work and Study Coordinators will be fully integrated into the headspace multidisciplinary team.

The Work and Study Coordinator will provide career development advice, vocational and employment assistance to young people with mental illness up to the age of 25, in tandem with the headspace clinical team, to ensure young people can achieve and maintain sustainable participation in vocational education and employment.

hW&S Coordinators support young people with :

keeping up with work or study

job readiness skills such as finding work, writing a resume and interview preparation

reassessing study and / or career aspirations

supporting young people to make informed decisions in relation to finding meaningful career pathways

assistance to settle into the workplace including targeted support for both employers and hW&S participant.

This is a full-time, permanent position. Based at our headspace Inala office, you will travel within the Inala / Brisbane South region with all work-related travel reimbursed.

About You

We are looking for a person with passion and commitment for supporting young people in obtaining employment that is meaningful to them. We need a strong team player with a youth friendly focus and a commitment to high quality care.

You will have tertiary qualifications (minimum Diploma) in Community Services, Counselling, Career Counselling, Youth Work, Career Development, Business Administration or related field.

You will also have a minimum of 12 months demonstrated experience in :

Either vocational rehabilitation, disability employment services or as a career practitioner.

Working in direct practice with children and young people.

Placing and supporting young people with complex needs in employment and educational settings.

Our successful candidate will also bring the following attributes :

Demonstrated success at initiating and sustaining collaborative partnerships with a range of organisations within the employment and education service system.

Knowledge of the principles of IPS evidence-based supported employment.

Apply a recovery-focused, person-centred attitude towards people with mental health needs and disabilities

Sound ability to negotiate with, and influence, a variety of stakeholders to achieve a mutually beneficial outcome

High levels ofprofessionalism, confidentiality and discretion and the ability to relate to and work effectively with young people.

Knowledge and understanding of mental health, including related evidence-based interventions and clinical practice.

Providing culturally sensitive engagement with young people and their families, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, CALD and LGBTIQ young people.

Experience in effectively managing a case load of clients.

Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a diverse range of people, in particular the ability to engage with young people and advocate on their behalf.

Highly developed skills to prioritise and manage multiple and competing work tasks and deliver to agreed deadlines.

High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
