Job descriptionMonitor and optimize CPU, memory, and I / O performance. Tune WLM, Sysplex, and critical components. Conduct capacity planning and recommend hardware upgrades. Administer RACF and enforce security policies. Ensure compliance with SOX, PCI-DSS, HIPAA. Apply security patches and mitigate vulnerabilities. Manage DFSMS, VSAM, HSM, and storage tools. Oversee backups, DR, and high-availability solutions. Optimize disk and tape storage usage. Diagnose and resolve system abends and bottlenecks. Analyze dumps, logs, and traces for root cause. Work with IBM support and vendors on complex issues. Develop automation using REXX, JCL, CLIST, Ansible. Improve monitoring, job scheduling, and efficiency. Automate repetitive tasks to streamline processes. Implement and test DR plans for business continuity. Maintain Parallel Sysplex and failover configurations. Maintain technical documentation and best practices. Mentor junior team members and share knowledge. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or equivalent experience. 5+ years as a z / OS Systems Programmer or similar role. Expertise in z / OS, z / VM, JES2, SMP / E, TSO, ISPF, RACF, JCL, REXX, VTAM, TCP / IP, USS, z / Linux. Strong understanding of IBM mainframe hardware, Sysplex, and storage management. Experience with performance tuning and troubleshooting using logs and dumps. Familiarity with automation tools and middleware integration. Experience with CICS, DB2, IMS, MQ, WebSphere, or z / VM. Familiarity with ACF2, Top Secret, and cloud integration (zCloud, IBM Z Ansible). Knowledge of Containers, AI, and ability to read Assembler / C code. Certifications : IBM Certified System Programmer – z / OS, ITIL Foundation. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to work independently and lead initiatives. PKWARE is looking for an experienced z / OS Systems Programmer to design, implement, and maintain enterprise-level system software in IBM mainframe environments. This role focuses on system configuration, performance tuning, security, automation, and troubleshooting to ensure high availability and optimal performance.
