Job description

Role Overview

We are seeking a FHIR Developer to design, build, and implement secure and scalable healthcare interoperability solutions. The candidate will work on integrating healthcare systems using HL7, FHIR , HL7 v2 , and related healthcare data exchange standards. The role involves working with APIs, data transformation, and integration between EHR / EMR systems and cloud platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop FHIR-based APIs and data models for healthcare data interoperability.
  • Implement RESTful services using FHIR resources for EHR, EMR, claims, and patient data exchange.
  • Build data integration pipelines between healthcare systems using HL7, FHIR, and CCD / CDA formats.
  • Work with FHIR Implementation Guides (IGs) for use cases such as Patient Access, Payer-to-Payer Exchange, Prior Authorization, IPS, and TEFCA.
  • Collaborate with product, QA, and clinical SMEs to ensure compliance with healthcare workflows.
  • Maintain and extend existing interoperability solutions with support for SMART on FHIR, OAuth2, and OpenID Connect.
  • Validate and transform healthcare data between internal formats and FHIR-compliant structures.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, schemas, and mappings.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, GDPR, and data privacy regulations.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in software development, with 2+ years of experience in healthcare interoperability.
  • Strong understanding of FHIR, HL7 v2.x, CDA, CCD, and related standards.
  • Hands-on experience with FHIR libraries or frameworks such as :
  • HAPI-FHIR (Java)
  • FHIR-Py (Python)
  • FHIR.NET API (C#)
  • Node-FHIR-Server (JavaScript / Node.js)
  • Experience developing RESTful APIs and working with JSON, XML, and Swagger / OpenAPI specs.
  • Strong understanding of FHIR resources (Patient, Encounter, Observation, Condition, Coverage, Practitioner, etc.) and FHIR Profiles / Extensions.
  • Experience in FHIR validation, mapping, and transformations using tools like Mirth Connect, Smile CDR, or custom solutions.
  • Familiarity with SMART on FHIR apps and OAuth2 / OpenID Connect security.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare workflows : EHR, EMR, labs, claims, patient demographics, and encounters.

    • Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience working with major EHR systems (Epic, Cerner, Allscripts, Meditech).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Exposure to data analytics tools (Power BI, Tableau) or healthcare data warehouses.
  • Experience with FHIR servers such as Smile CDR, HAPI FHIR JPA Server, or Azure FHIR Service.
  • FHIR certification or HL7 Certified Specialist credentials.
  • Working knowledge of DevOps practices and CI / CD pipelines.
