Role Description
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our team and help us to move the experimentation platform to the next level. Your role is to enable your team and help each team member to achieve their goals. You get things done via influence, not authority. You unlock the creativity of your team and inspire them to build the best for our customers. You take full responsibility for your area.
As an Engineering Manager, you are responsible for one or two engineering teams and the technology that the teams own. You will not only work as a coach for your team members but also as a technical leader, ensuring that the right technical decisions are made when building our product. You will collaborate with colleagues in US to achieve results the right way. This will include other Engineering Managers, Product Managers and Data Scientists.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Manage 1 or more teams of software engineers - between 5 and 10 people in total
- Create a culture of ownership and technical excellence, leading by example
- Empower engineers to develop their careers by providing ad-hoc applicable coaching
- Help building and enriching an inclusive work environment comprised of people from diverse backgrounds
- Contribute to projects by guiding architectural discussions, providing technical coaching to software engineers and occasionally getting hands-on with coding
- Champion engineering and operational excellence, establishing metrics and processes to both supervise health and allow continuous improvement
- Provide technical guidance to both your team members and your project peers
- Drive team efforts to establish bottom-up projects and roadmaps supporting our vision
- Collaborate closely with the team in Amsterdam to drive the delivery of common goals
The job requirements
At least 2 years of experience leading and managing a team of engineers in a fast-paced and complex environment6+ years of experience in software development with proficiency in one of the following languages : Java, Perl, Python, JavaScript (NodeJS)Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field or 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the specialty as equivalentA deep understanding of software development in a team, and a track record of developing and shipping softwareFamiliarity with agile best practices for the full software development life cycle such as coding standards, code reviews, and version control in GitExperience working with cloud technologies like AWS, Docker, and / or KubernetesExcellent communication skills with the ability to influence and cooperate with people at all levelsExperience in working on products with a large customer base and company wide impactExperience in designing and architecting APIs, dealing with high traffic and security concernsStrong Coding & System design skills with ability to get hands-on with your team if neededYou are a humble and thoughtful technology leader, you lead by example and gain your teammates’ respect through actions, not the titleExperience in managing platform teams related to data products is a plusExperience working with teams located in different timezones is a plusExperience with experimentation, statistics and A / B testing is a plus
