We're hiring an experienced and results-oriented Layer 3 (L3) Engineer to join our team in Bengaluru. This critical role involves the design, development, and optimization of the control and user plane protocols for our cutting-edge base station (eNodeB / gNB) solutions in LTE (4G) and 5G networks, with a strong focus on Cloud-Native deployment and high-performance packet processing.
Responsibilities :
- Protocol Development : Design, implement, and maintain core 4G and 5G protocols including RRC (Radio Resource Control) and control plane aspects of PDCP within the eNodeB / gNB software.
- Signaling Interface Implementation : Develop and integrate inter-eNB / gNB and core network signaling interfaces such as S1AP and X2AP (or their 5G equivalents).
- User Plane Development : Implement and optimize user plane protocols like GTP-U (GPRS Tunneling Protocol User Plane) for efficient data handling.
- Self-Organizing Networks (SON) : Implement and validate SON (Self-Organizing Network) features (e.g., ANR, MLB) to enhance network automation and efficiency.
- High-Performance Networking : Utilize and integrate fast packet processing frameworks like DPDK (Data Plane Development Kit) or VPP (Vector Packet Processing) to achieve ultra-low latency and high throughput for the user plane.
- Cloud-Native Integration : Deploy and manage L3 applications using containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes in a Linux environment.
- Debugging & Testing : Troubleshoot complex system and protocol issues, perform log analysis, and ensure the stability and conformance of the protocol stack with 3GPP standards.
Required Skills and Expertise :
Mandatory Technical Skills :
Wireless Standards : Mandatory expertise in LTE (4G) and 5G systems, with a deep understanding of the Control Plane and User Plane protocols.eNodeB / gNB Focus : Demonstrable and relevant experience must be specifically on the Base Station (eNodeB / gNB) side of the protocol stack.Key 4G / 5G Protocols : In-depth, hands-on development experience with :
1. RRC (Radio Resource Control)
2. PDCP control plane
3. S1AP and X2AP
4. GTP-U (User Plane)
Programming Languages : Expert proficiency in C / C++ for developing high-performance, real-time networking and control plane software.Operating Systems : Solid experience with development and debugging on Linux operating systems.Core Competencies :
Cloud-Native : Practical experience with Kubernetes and Docker for deploying, scaling, and managing microservices-based telecom functions.High-Speed Processing : Hands-on experience or strong conceptual knowledge of accelerated data plane technologies like DPDK or VPP.SON : Working knowledge of SON principles and implementation.3GPP Standards : Strong command of relevant 3GPP LTE and 5G standards for Layer 3 protocols.Qualifications :
