About the Role : We are seeking an experienced and visionary Lead Firmware Engineer to head our firmware development efforts. In this role, you will take ownership of the design, architecture, and development of embedded systems for our IoT devices. You will work closely with hardware, cloud, and analytics teams to deliver high-performance, secure, and scalable IoT solutions that power our mission of sustainability. Beyond hands-on development, you will mentor the firmware team, establish best practices, and drive innovation in embedded systems design.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Define the firmware architecture, roadmap, and standards for IoT device development.
  • Lead design, development, testing, and deployment of embedded software ensuring reliability, performance, and scalability.
  • Work closely with hardware teams for seamless integration of sensors, actuators, and communication modules.
  • Drive the adoption and optimization of communication protocols (MQTT, Modbus, CoAP, BLE, etc.) for secure and efficient device connectivity.
  • Architect and debug real-time embedded applications under stringent constraints.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of memory, CPU, and power resources with a focus on sustainability.
  • Define and enforce robust device security standards (encryption, authentication, OTA updates).
  • Establish frameworks for rigorous testing, debugging, and validation of embedded systems.
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers, building a high-performing firmware team.
  • Partner with cloud, data, and AI teams to enable seamless IoT-to-cloud connectivity and analytics.
  • Introduce automation, CI / CD for firmware, and best practices to scale development.
  • Skills and Qualifications :

  • Essential :
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 7–10 years of experience in embedded systems and firmware development.
  • Strong expertise in C / C++ for embedded platforms. Proven track record with wireless communication technologies (Wi-Fi, Zigbee, LoRa, NB-IoT, BLE).
  • Deep knowledge of low-power design for battery-operated IoT devices.
  • Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS).
  • Understanding of IoT security frameworks (TLS / SSL, secure boot, device authentication).
  • Experience integrating with cloud platforms (AWS IoT, Azure IoT Hub, or GCP IoT Core).
  • Preferred :
  • Prior experience leading a firmware or embedded systems team.
  • Experience with OTA (Over-the-Air) firmware updates at scale.
  • Familiarity with CI / CD pipelines for firmware development.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
