Mainframe Software Junior Developer – Associate
We’re looking for experienced and motivated Mainframe Software Junior Developers to join our growing team. Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain COBOL-based applications in a z / OS environment
Write and optimize complex SQL queries for DB2 for z / OS
Integrate COBOL applications with DB2 databases and IBM MQ messaging systems
Manage user access and system security using RACF
Participate in code reviews , debugging, and performance tuning
Collaborate with testers, analysts, and DevOps engineers
Contribute to system documentation and knowledge sharing
Support modernization efforts using Micro Focus tools
Core Mainframe Technologies
COBOL – One of the most widely used programming languages in enterprise systems.
DB2 for z / OS – Learn how to write and optimize SQL queries, design databases, and work with powerful DB2 utilities like LOAD, UNLOAD, and REORG.
RACF – Understand how to manage user access and enforce system security.
IBM MQ – Get familiar with message queues and how they help systems communicate reliably.
z / OS Environment – Work with tools like JCL (Job Control Language), TSO / ISPF, and VSAM for file handling.
Bonus Skills
Experience with Micro Focus Enterprise Developer / Analyzer
Exposure to Agile or DevOps practices
Interest in modernizing legacy systems
Additional Requirements
Security Clearance : Must be an Australian Citizen with active or eligible security clearance.
Work Schedule : This is a managed services role, so flexibility is key. You may be required to work shifts, be on-call, and support after-hours deployments.
Location Commitment : Must be willing to work onsite at the client’s office 4 days a week.
Other Essentials
Must not have been terminated from a government agency or received poor performance feedback.
Must have lived in Australia for most of the past 5 years.
Must be up to date with tax obligations.

On-Call and Shift Expectations
This role supports managed services , which means :
You may work in rotating shifts to ensure continuous client support.
You could be on-call to respond to incidents or assist with after-hours deployments.
