Job Description for Product Design Faculty
The product design department at MIT Institute of Design has a formidable reputation in the design industry, with its alumni well-placed in prestigious manufacturing companies, design studios, and start-ups across the country. The course structure covers basic subjects such as product form, ergonomics, and manufacturing processes, as well as specializations like packaging design, system design, and product interaction design. Faculty members in Product Design are assigned to teach / mentor B.Des. and M.Des. students. They are also encouraged to undertake academic research, and sponsored projects from the industry.
Qualification and Experience
M.Des. in Product Design / Industrial Design / Lifestyle Accessory Design
Minimum 1 year industry / teaching experience for Assistant Professor position
(fresh graduates can be considered in case of exceptional skills)
Candidates with rich experience would be considered for Professor or Associate Professor positions.
PhD (completed or pursuing) would be a big advantage.
Portfolio
A strong portfolio is a must. The portfolio should showcase projects involving physical product design from domains such as appliances, medical devices, industrial products, lifestyle products, or structural packaging.
Expertise
The candidate should match either of the 2 profiles given below :
1. Expert in product design skills - sketching, form, CAD (Rhino / Fusion), AI tools.
2. Expert in product design process - experience in executing product design projects from research to conceptualization to product detailing.
