Control-M Scheduler – z / OS Mainframe
Role Summary :
The Control-M Scheduler is responsible for defining, managing, and monitoring batch job schedules using BMC Control-M on IBM z / OS systems. This role ensures efficient and reliable job execution across enterprise workloads, supporting business-critical operations.
Key Responsibilities :
- Job Scheduling & Management :
- Create and maintain job scheduling definitions using Control-M for z / OS
- Define calendars (regular, periodic, rule-based) and SMART tables for job execution
- Manage job dependencies, conditions, and resources.
- Monitoring & Troubleshooting :
- Monitor active jobs and resolve scheduling conflicts or job failures.
- Use Control-M Monitor and Event Manager (CMEM) to track job execution and handle exceptions
- Automation & Optimization :
- Implement New Day processing and automate job submission workflows
- Use AutoEdit variables to dynamically modify JCL at runtime
- Collaboration & Support :
- Work with application teams, DBAs, and system programmers to align job schedules with business needs.
- Provide on-call support for job failures and scheduling issues.
- Documentation & Compliance :
- Maintain documentation for job definitions, scheduling rules, and operational procedures.
- Ensure compliance with internal standards and audit requirements.
Required Skills & Qualifications :
Technical Expertise :Strong knowledge of Control-M for z / OS, JCL, and z / OS batch processing.Familiarity with IOA (Integrated Operations Architecture) and Control-M components like CMEM, AutoEdit, and SMART TablesExperience :3–7 years of experience in job scheduling and workload automation on mainframe platforms.Experience with Control-M utilities and troubleshooting tools.Soft Skills :Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication and coordination abilities.Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.Preferred Qualifications :BMC Control-M certification or equivalent training.Experience in large-scale enterprise environments with complex batch workflows.
