About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced
Progressive Tool Design Engineer
to join our dynamic engineering team. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert in progressive press tool design, with a solid foundation in ViSi software and a strong understanding of end-to-end tool design, manufacturing processes, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Specialize in the design and detailing of Progressive Press Tools using ViSi, AutoCAD, CATIA V5, UG NX.
Lead Trim line and progressive tool development including strip layout creation for new components.
Interpret part drawings to conceptualize and design strip layouts considering blanking, piercing, forming, and cutting stages.
Coordinate all aspects of tool development including design feasibility, tooling design, simulation, manufacturing, and validation.
Optimize strip layout for material utilization, tool life, and manufacturability.
Develop detailed 2D / 3D models, engineering drawings, BOMs, and design documentation.
Execute tolerance analysis and refine designs to meet performance, efficiency, and safety standards.
Create dies, jigs, fixtures, and custom tooling solutions from concept to production.
Perform design validation using testing, simulations, and engineering calculations.
Conduct design feasibility studies and benchmarking against competitors.
Collaborate with product development, manufacturing, and quality teams for seamless integration.
Troubleshoot design issues and implement cost-effective, reliable solutions.
Manage tooling and automation projects including procurement, scheduling, fabrication, and delivery.
Oversee prototype development, production trials, and pre-production validation.
Support production during tool tryouts, commissioning, and debugging.
Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for material selection, timelines, and cost optimization.
Attend and contribute to weekly design and cross-functional meetings.
Participate in peer design reviews and prepare project documentation.
Provide progress updates, reports, and technical presentations to internal stakeholders.
Support training and guidance for junior engineers or technicians.
Ensure compliance with GD&T, SPC, DOE, and applicable industry standards and regulations.
§ Conduct root cause analysis for tooling issues and implement corrective actions.
Maintain proper records, CAD files, and documentation as per QMS standards.
Required Qualifications
Diploma or Degree in Tool Design / Mechanical Engineering
NTTF / IGTR certification highly preferred
Minimum 6 years of hands-on experience in Progressive Press Tool Design
Proven track record in using AutoCAD, CATIA V5, UG NX, ViSi
Strong understanding of BOM structures, GD&T, DOE, SPC, and Lean Manufacturing
