As we expand our focus on education — a sector critical to India's future — we are looking for a committed Senior Education Reporter to join our Mumbai newsroom.
Role Overview :
As a Senior Education Reporter at The Free Press Journal, you will be responsible for covering all major developments in the education sector.
Key Responsibilities :
- Report and write news articles, features, and explainers related to the education beat — including school board updates, university affairs, government policies, competitive exams, admissions, edtech, and student activism.
- Build and maintain a strong network of sources in the education ecosystem — including school and college administrators, government officials, educators, students, and academic experts.
- Monitor regulatory and academic bodies such as UGC, AICTE, CBSE, ICSE, State Education Boards, and the Ministry of Education for relevant updates.
- Attend press conferences, academic events, and education summits to gather news and insights.
- Pitch original and impactful story ideas — both for print and digital — that resonate with FPJ’s audience.
- Ensure stories meet FPJ’s editorial standards of accuracy, fairness, and objectivity, and are filed on tight deadlines.
- Collaborate with photo and digital teams to amplify stories across platforms, including social media and multimedia formats.
Qualifications :
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, English, or a relevant discipline.5+ years of experience in reporting, preferably with a focus on education or social development.Proven track record of published articles in reputable publications.Excellent command of English — both written and spoken.Strong news sense and the ability to simplify complex policy matters for a general audience.Familiarity with Mumbai’s educational landscape is a significant advantage.Desirable Skills :
Knowledge of SEO, content management systems (CMS), and social media strategy.Working knowledge of Marathi or Hindi is a plus.Application Process :
