Fractional Workday Integration (Studio) Consultant – Confidential Neighbourhood Network
About the Confidential Neighbourhood Platform
The client for this engagement is a hyper‑local neighbourhood network that connects over 100 million verified members across roughly 345,000 neighbourhoods in more than 11 countries . The platform provides trusted local news, real‑time safety alerts, recommendations, buy‑and‑sell listings and event information to help residents keep up with what is happening around them. Its mission is to make every neighbourhood feel like home by connecting neighbours with the people, places and information that matter. Members must verify their physical address before joining, ensuring that each digital neighbourhood represents a real community and enabling conversations that strengthen safety and trust. The platform has become an essential channel where local businesses, public agencies and neighbours share information and build community.
Role Summary
The company is seeking a Fractional Workday Integration (Studio) Consultant to support a large‑scale integration initiative between Workday HCM and its Python‑based, AWS‑hosted backend. This remote, fractional role (10–20 hours per week) will design, build and optimize Workday Studio integrations that seamlessly exchange data with the existing Django web application, NGINX / uWSGI infrastructure, and AWS Elastic Load Balancer . The consultant will work closely with HRIS, engineering and security teams to ensure that employee data flows securely and efficiently while respecting the company’s mission of fostering trusted neighbourhood connections.
Key Responsibilities
Integration Development & Architecture
- Build Workday Studio integrations. Design and develop Workday Studio and Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB) integrations that synchronize employee data with the internal platform. Implement Workday’s REST and SOAP APIs, Core Connectors and Report‑as‑a‑Service (RaaS) to exchange data with Django models and services.
- Integrate with Python / AWS architecture. Develop connectors that interface with a Django 3 / Python 3 backend, Django ORM , and custom middleware through REST and GraphQL APIs. Deploy integration services behind NGINX , uWSGI , and AWS Application Load Balancers for high availability and security.
- Optimize performance and scalability. Implement asynchronous processing, batching and retry logic to handle high volumes of Workday transactions. Align integration patterns with the company’s technology stack, including Conda environments, MyPy type checking and auto‑scaling infrastructure.
System Analysis & Configuration
Map Workday modules. Conduct detailed mappings of Workday HCM modules (Core HR, Recruiting, Payroll, Benefits, Absence and Compensation) to internal databases and middleware. Configure custom transformations and schemas to ensure that Workday objects align with the Django ORM and the platform’s data model.Configure authentication and security. Manage OAuth 2.0 authentication between Workday and internal identity providers. Ensure that multi‑factor authentication and encryption controls align with the platform’s commitment to secure, trusted communities.Leverage CI / CD and testing. Use MyPy for static type checking and integrate Workday tests into the existing CI / CD pipeline. Deploy integration code through Conda managed environments to maintain package isolation and reproducibility.API & Middleware Management
Manage API endpoints. Develop and maintain OpenAPI 3.0 documentation for all integration endpoints. Use Django REST Framework and GraphQL resolvers to present employee data to other services while adhering to the platform’s hyper‑local data‑sharing ethos.Implement rate limiting and error handling. Apply IP‑based throttling and structured error handling to protect internal services from misuse and to provide reliable responses.Ensure middleware resilience. Configure uWSGI Emperor process management and NGINX reverse proxy settings to handle dynamic workloads. Coordinate with AWS auto‑scaling groups and load balancers to maintain service availability during peak integration runs.Data Governance & Monitoring
Protect sensitive data. Implement data governance policies to ensure that personally identifiable information (PII) remains secure as it flows between Workday and the neighbourhood network. Enforce data minimization and retention policies consistent with global privacy regulations.Monitor and troubleshoot. Set up dashboards using AWS CloudWatch and Workday Integration Logs. Monitor transaction status, manage exceptions and support audit readiness for compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 and GDPR.Support compliance and community trust. Align integration practices with the platform’s community guidelines, which emphasize trust, real identity and address verification.Collaboration & Documentation
Stakeholder engagement. Work with HR, Payroll, IT and platform engineering teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical designs.Documentation and training. Produce detailed documentation—data flow diagrams, sequence diagrams and technical specifications—and train internal staff on integration workflows and troubleshooting procedures.Qualifications & Skills
