Job description

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the quality and integrity of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for their team and identify opportunities for improvement in how the team works, through usage of recommended tools and practices
  • Solve highly complex issues by applying sound technical approaches
  • Set the team’s objectives and key results in collaboration with Product and Experience Design (XD) partners
  • Communicate context to the team, and set clear expectations
  • Promote a culture of inclusion and diversity, encouraging and advancing Best Buy’s values
  • Understand and evaluate the consequences and risks of changes
  • Design and build solutions with impacts across multiple teams
  • Participate in code and architecture reviews of the team’s product
  • Discuss trade-offs when making decisions on solutions
  • Keep your team focused on quality and regular releases
  • Collaborate with other teams to find creative solutions to customer issues
  • Participate in production support along with their team
  • Apply in-depth understanding of your domain, and be knowledgeable about related domains
  • Show a commitment to delivery deadlines, in particular seasonal and vendor partner deadlines that are critical to Best Buy’s continued success
  • Provide technical guidance on issues that span multiple projects
  • Evaluate and recommend libraries and frameworks that help with development
  • Contribute bug fixes and features, but may not be on critical path for feature delivery
  • Research new technologies to stay current with industry trends and standards
  • Manage individual performance through regular 1 : 1s, coaching, mentoring, and encouragement of development plans
  • Set tactical team goals in service of larger organizational strategic goals
  • Maintain and influence relationships with stakeholders
  • Evaluate talent gaps within the team, and help with interviewing and hiring

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience with a bachelor’s degree OR equivalent relevant professional experience. Including :
  • 3+ years of experience with native Android and / or iOS development
  • 1+ years of practical experience with Server-Side Rendering (SSR) using frameworks like Next.js, including performance optimization, caching strategies.
  • Prior experience of driving operational excellence (OE) and cost optimization initiatives at an org level
  • Good understanding of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL), NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis, etc.) and ORM frameworks (e.g., Hibernate, Entity Framework)
  • Understanding of OAuth2 / OIDC, API Gateway, or BFF (Backend-for-Frontend) patterns
  • Hands-on with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, AWS CDK) and CI / CD pipeline tooling (e.g., GitHub Actions, CircleCI, Jenkins)
  • Exposure to AI / ML inference pipelines or integrating AI-powered analytics into frontend experiences
  • Strong awareness of security best practices (e.g., OWASP Top 10, secure coding practices)
  • Familiarity with observability tools like Sentry and Dynatrace
  • 3+ years of experience in technical leadership of designing, architecting, and mentoring teams on complex mobile and cross-platform application projects
  • Experience in technical design documentation including architecture diagrams, sequence flows, UML design decision records (DDRs), SOLID, MVVM, Clean Architecture
  • Prior experience with micro frontend architecture and modular mobile development patterns (e.g., feature flags, dynamic module loading)
  • 3+ years of experience with Mobile App development using frameworks like React Native
  • 3+ years of experience with Web development using TypeScript, and frameworks like React
  • 2+ years of experience with unit testing, integration testing, and CI / CD pipelines.
  • Preferred

  • 2+ years of leading teams using agile planning principles with Kanban or similar iterative approach for estimating, planning, retrospectives, etc.
  • Ability to triage and manage complex production issues
  • Prior experience of developing AR / VR features or applications using platforms such as ARKit, ARCore
  • 2+ years of experience building backend systems in either :
  • Java with Spring / Spring Boot, OR
  • C# with .NET Core / .NET 6+
  • Strong knowledge of REST APIs, JSON, and HTTP protocols
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Knowledge of event-driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.)
  • Exposure to microservices and distributed system design
  • Experience working in Agile / Scrum environments
