The Opportunity

We're looking for a Lead Python Engineer to spearhead the backend modernization of a large-scale Insurance Policy & Claims Management platform. You'll lead the migration from a legacy PHP / Laravel system to a modern Python-based architecture, collaborating closely with the client's technical team and internal stakeholders.

This is a hands-on leadership role - perfect for a senior engineer who enjoys deep technical challenges and building trusted client relationships.

What You'll Do Technical Leadership

Lead the migration of backend services from PHP / Laravel to Python.

Architect, design, and implement scalable APIs to power a React / TypeScript frontend.

Define the technical roadmap and transition plan for legacy systems.

Ensure smooth data migration, API compatibility, and zero disruption during rollout.

Client Engagement

Act as the primary technical point of contact for the client's engineering team.

Participate in client meetings to discuss progress, blockers, and technical direction.

Communicate complex technical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Partner with client leadership to align on architecture decisions, timelines, and milestones.

Development & Integration

Build robust, maintainable backend services using FastAPI, Django, or Flask.

Collaborate with frontend teams to deliver seamless end-to-end integrations.

Implement authentication, authorization, and data validation middleware.

Contribute to CI / CD, testing, and deployment automation practices.

What You'll Bring Core Skills

7+ years of hands-on Python development experience with modern frameworks (FastAPI, Django, Flask).

Strong database fundamentals - PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB.

Proven track record in designing, implementing, and maintaining RESTful APIs.

Experience with testing frameworks (pytest, unittest) and CI / CD pipelines.

Prior experience leading migrations or large-scale refactor projects.

Client-Facing Experience

Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.

Experience working directly with clients or external engineering teams.

Ability to translate business goals into actionable technical solutions.

Bonus Points

Background in insurance, fintech, or other regulated domains.

Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).

Familiarity with asynchronous programming, message queues, or microservices.
