Summary of Role :
This position is for a Professional Services Consultant within the HCL Software Mainframe
Practice.
The primary objective is to deliver professional services towards the Migration of IBM z
Workload Scheduler product
The role involves providing expert consultancy, managing migration and implementation
projects from inception to completion, and collaborating with internal HCL teams and clients.
Role, Characteristics, and Responsibilities :
Adopts a solution-oriented and consultative approach for project identification, progression,
implementation, and closure at customer sites.
Provides proactive technical support to customers and takes ownership of technical issue
resolution during projects.
Translates customer needs into software requirements and participates in development
within company products.
Engages in software program research, design, implementation, and management, including
testing new programs, identifying areas for improvement in existing programs, and
producing efficient, quality code in adherence to standard processes.
Collaborates with other developers to leverage strategic assets.
Delivers billable consulting work, with performance measured by billable utilization rate.
Demonstrates strong, adaptable communication skills, excellent presentation abilities, and
an awareness of when influencing or negotiation skills are required.
Responsible for developing accurate and concise project documentation.
Possesses an improvement-focused approach, recommending enhancements to processes
and tools.
Leads technical engagements and is recognized as an expert in the field.
Exhibits flexibility to ensure projects are completed within scope and on time.
May require travel to customer sites.
Supports the pre-sales cycle by providing infrastructure consultancy, including audits and
assessments.
Maintain a continuous passion for the role and a desire to learn about evolving technology
and solutions.
Required Experience :
Minimum of 10 years of experience in delivery and software development.
At least 4 to 5 years of experience in the workload automation domain with products such as
IBM z IWS, BMC Control-M, CA-ESP, or CA-7.
Key Skills :
Language Proficiency : Proficient in English.
Workload Scheduler : In-depth knowledge of leading Mainframe scheduling tools (e.g., z IWS,
BMC Control-M, CA-ESP, CA-7).
Workload Manager Principles : Understanding of Service Classes and Resource Affinity
Scheduling (SCHENV).
Workload Automation Operation / Administration : Several years of experience as an
Operator / Administrator of a workload automation product, particularly in large enterprise
environments.
Experience with console automation products (e.g., System Automation, AF / Oper,
OPSMVS, Solve).
Understanding of consoles and operator commands.
Mainframe High-Level Languages :
JCL
Programming with ISPF Services
Assembler
Mainframe build tools, development environment, and methodologies.
Scripting / programming knowledge (REXX, CLIST, ISPF Edit Macros).
Experience developing ISPF-based tools and applications.
Mainframe Workflow Tools : Familiarity with mainframe workflow tools.
z / OS Platform Skills : Proficient in JES, JCL, DFSMS, File structures (e.g., VSAM), and
security (e.g., RACF).
Mainframe Database : Experience with mainframe database engines, SQL, and tools (DB2
preferred).
Additional Skills (Appreciated) :
Java programming or other scripting languages.
Distributed OS skills (Windows, UNIX, Linux, Cloud).
Products :
Primary focus on IBM IWS (Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z / OS) or general Automation
Software products.
Travel :
Travel required as dictated by customer and project needs.
