Job Title : Database Specialist (Data Migration)

Experience : 5+ years

Summary of Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Specialist (Data Migration) to join our team. The role involves extracting data from legacy mainframe databases and migrating it to modern database systems in the cloud or on-premises environments. The ideal candidate will have expertise in data extraction, mapping, transformation, and validation, ensuring smooth migration from systems such as Db2, IMS, ADABAS, or IDMS to PostgreSQL. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong problem-solving skills and hands-on experience in PostgreSQL migrations.

Key Responsibilities

Extract and export customer data from legacy databases (Db2, IMS, ADABAS, IDMS).
Implement taxonomy / code changes in migrated mainframe code.
Migrate legacy database files to PostgreSQL in Linux and Windows cloud environments.
Collaborate with Project Managers and Implementation Engineers to interpret and map customer data.
Partner with the Sales Team to analyze prospective customer data and assist in pricing quotes.
Validate and reconcile data in both source and destination systems.
Design and implement transformation methods to optimize migration processes.
Provide technical expertise and best practices for migration strategies.
Support team members in achieving deliverables and meeting project deadlines.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Advanced expertise in PostgreSQL (required).

Strong experience with SQL, Mainframe DB2, IMS, VSAM, ADABAS, IDMS .

Proven track record in mainframe-to-Postgres / SQL Server migrations .

Strong scripting language knowledge (preferred).

Excellent communication (verbal & written) and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Strong organizational skills with effective time management.

Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex data-related issues.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).

5+ years of experience in data migration with PostgreSQL in complex environments.

Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems .

Understanding of zOS and / or Unisys-based database systems .

Experience with Windows Server and SQL-based database solutions in cloud environments.

Intermediate or advanced knowledge of networking, hardware, operating systems, databases, remote connectivity, and security .
