Company Description
Mindlabs is a fast-growing deeptech startup building intelligent, reliable infrastructure for the physical world. We specialize in real-time sensing systems for cold chain, logistics, and industrial environments — combining rugged hardware, wireless connectivity, and cloud-native software. Our mission is to reduce global inefficiencies like cold chain wastage through technology that’s invisible, scalable, and resilient. Founded by engineers from IITs, we're a product-first company with full-stack control — from PCB to platform — and a culture obsessed with field reliability, quality, and long-term impact.
Role Description
As a Hardware Design Engineer at Mindlabs, you will own the end-to-end hardware development lifecycle for our IoT products — from early concept prototyping and component evaluation to PCB design, bring-up, testing, and production support. This role goes beyond schematic and PCB design : you will build proof-of-concept prototypes using development boards and modules, validate design choices, debug hardware issues, and work closely with manufacturing partners during NPI and mass production. You will directly influence product architecture and ensure our devices are reliable, manufacturable, and optimized for scale. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on engineering, rapid prototyping, and building robust hardware for real-world deployment.
Responsibilities
- Design complete hardware systems including schematics, BOMs, PCB layouts, and test plans.
- Build fast prototypes using devboards, modules, and evaluation kits to validate design ideas.
- Own PCB bring-up, testing, debugging, and performance evaluation.
- Select sensors, power components, radios, and other electronics suited for product requirements.
- Collaborate with firmware engineers to ensure seamless hardware–software integration.
- Prepare production-ready assets including Gerbers, pick-and-place files, test procedures, and documentation.
- Work with EMS partners for fabrication, assembly, testing, DFM / DFT, and resolving production issues.
- Run electrical validation, environmental tests, and reliability checks as needed.
- Investigate and resolve field issues, identify root causes, and drive hardware improvements.
- Maintain component libraries and ensure design quality, signal integrity, and manufacturability.
Skillset and Experience Requirements
Strong experience in schematic design and PCB layout (2–8 layers).Strong hands-on prototyping skills : breadboards, perfboards, devkits, soldering, rework.Solid understanding of electronics fundamentals—power circuits, sensors, RF basics, grounding, EMI / ESD.Experience debugging with multimeter, oscilloscope, logic analyzer, etc.Familiarity with microcontrollers (ESP32, STM32), radios, and common IoT interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, RS485).Experience with DFM / DFT, PCB stack-up, assembly processes, and working with EMS / PCB vendors.Ability to read datasheets, select components, and make architectural trade-offs.Knowledge of power optimization, battery-powered designs, and regulators.Experience building test jigs or production testing setups.Comfortable working in fast-paced startup environments with end-to-end ownership.Perks working at Mindlabs
