Role Overview :
We are seeking an experienced Global General Counsel with deep litigation strategy expertise. The GC will lead our global litigation efforts, develop and execute IP protection & enforcement strategies (especially practice around patents), advise the executive leadership and board on legal risk, and partner cross-functionally (R&D, product, regulatory, commercial, strategy) to support growth and defend the company.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead and oversee all litigation matters globally : manage existing and potential disputes, decide on strategy (settlement vs trial), engage with external counsel in different jurisdictions.
- Develop, maintain, and execute a comprehensive IP strategy, including patent prosecution, enforcement, licensing, and defensive IP. Develop proactive litigation strategies, anticipating future challenges and staying two steps ahead.
- Serve as a strategic legal advisor to the Board on global expansion, regulatory strategy, governance matters and new initiatives.
- Monitor global patent landscapes, track competitor filings, manage freedom‐to-operate analyses, advise on risk of infringement, and mitigate exposure.
- Lead response strategies for high-risk situations, including IP disputes, regulatory investigations, and compliance violations.
- Work with R&D / product teams to ensure IP is captured early in innovation, including patent filings, trade secrets, confidentiality, non‐disclosure agreements, invention disclosures.
- Be the legal lead on contracts & agreements touching litigation and IP (e.g. licensing, cross-licensing, joint development agreements, litigation settlements).
- Develop policies, systems, and processes for legal risk management & IP / patent protection, ensuring consistency across geographies.
- Manage a global legal budget, engage external firms, negotiate legal spend, ensure efficient and effective use of resources.
- Monitor legal trends, case law (especially in patent litigation), and evolving regulations in key jurisdictions, advising on potential impact.
- Oversee all legal matters across global jurisdictions, including corporate, commercial, intellectual property, regulatory, compliance, and risk functions.
Qualifications & Experience :
Law degree(s) (JD / LLB / LLM or equivalent), with a strong academic background.Admitted to practice in at least one relevant jurisdiction; experience managing cross-border legal matters.Substantial litigation experience (10+ years preferred) with proven track record in major cases, ideally including patent litigation and / or international litigation.Understanding of regulatory, privacy, data protection laws in global markets (EU, US, India, etc.).Excellent analytical, negotiation, and strategic thinking skills.Strong leadership skills; ability to manage external counsel, build internal legal capability, and collaborate with technical, product, commercial, and executive teams.Global mindset, cultural agility, comfort operating in ambiguous / fast-paced startup / scale-up environments.
