Your team : This is an exciting opportunity to join an award-winning publisher in a fast-paced, dynamic Editorial team.
Your role : Responsible for taking fiction and non-fiction books from manuscript to finished books. Ability to work independently to take complex books through the editorial process. Work closely with the Managing Editor to meet the planned deadlines for books. This role is based in New Delhi .
Your key responsibilities :
- Ability and willingness to undertake intensive line edits and rewrites for fiction and non-fiction books.
- Conduct diligent fact-checks and ensure that house style is followed and consistency maintained across books.
- Commission and edit indexes as needed in consultation with the Managing Editor.
- Proofread books and tally proofs as needed.
- Work with the Managing Editor to project manage titles from the copy-editing stage through to final files for frontlist titles, offsets, reissues, reprints and ebooks.
- Quality checks for edits delivered by freelance editors and proofreaders before sharing with commissioning editor / author / typesetter.
- Work with the Managing Editor on permissions and CRC checks for assigned books.
- Work closely with the Marketing and Publicity team to provide appropriate copy for publicity and marketing material.
- Work with the Editorial Director and commissioning editors on cover copy.
- Providing general admin support for departmental functions.
Essential experience, abilities and knowledge you’ll need to succeed :
Postgraduate level education or equivalent.4-5 years' editorial experience with impeccable written English and a sharp editorial eye.Familiarity with the publishing process.Widely read and interested in current publishing trends.Strong understanding of the production process and scheduling.Excellent editing and proofreading skills.Self-motivated and highly flexible – happy to move between projects as priorities dictate and manage multiple projects effectively.Able to adhere to timelines and effectively chart out edit schedules for individual titles.Desirable skills we’d love you to have :
