Job Description – Import Manager

About the Role We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Import Manager to oversee and streamline our end-to-end import operations. This role is critical in ensuring smooth international procurement, customs compliance, and t imely delivery of imported goods. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in import regulations, customs processes, and vendor coordination, along with excellent problem-solving and negotiation skills.
Key Responsibilities :
Import Operations Management :
- Plan, execute, and monitor end-to-end import processes, including shipment tracking, documentation, and clearance.
- Coordinate with overseas suppliers, freight forwarders, shipping lines, and customs brokers to ensure smooth import flow.
Customs & Regulatory Compliance :
Prepare, review, and manage all import-related documents (invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin, etc.).Ensure full compliance with customs regulations, import-export policies, and statutory requirements.Liaise with government authorities and regulatory agencies to resolve queries.Logistics & Cost Optimization :
Monitor shipments to ensure timely delivery and address any delays or disruptions proactively.Optimize freight costs, negotiate contracts with service providers, and implement efficiency-driven solutions.Stakeholder & Vendor Management :
Maintain strong relationships with suppliers, customs officials, freight forwarders, and other external agencies.Collaborate with internal teams (procurement, finance, warehouse, and operations) to align import activities with business needs.Process Improvement :
Identify gaps in import processes and recommend best practices for improved efficiency, cost reduction, and compliance.Implement technology and automation tools for better visibility and control of import operations.Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in international business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field (MBA preferred).5–8 years of hands-on experience in import management, customs clearance, and logistics.Strong knowledge of customs regulations, DGFT, EXIM policy, and import documentation.Proven experience in vendor negotiations and freight cost optimization.Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.Proficiency in MS Office and ERP systems;knowledge of trade compliance software is an advantage.
